It'd certainly be interesting to try out.

I guess with only a few units on the table and/or fewer assaults early on the first 2 turns fly by pretty quick.

Must admit - i still can't help thinking the arrival of reserves should be a set number rather than based on unit speed though... Eldar are just going to lap that up - turn 3 arriving reserves are just going to be met by a wall of guns who have marched in on turn one and set over watch on turn two ? Vampire assaults will finish off the survivors.

One thought on the first scenario (inspired by experiences with similar reserves mechanics in BFG and Warhammer Fantasy) is that stacking models on the edge of the table can get messy quickly. Sometimes it's harder to tell what's actually in play yet (especially if other units are still near the board edge), you can run out of room (especially in cases where multiple units want to enter from the same place, "stacking" them forward is awkward), and can also be dangerous (as my multiple BFG ships now missing their antennae from being bounced on the floor can attest to).

What about instead using counters to denote formations and requiring all units to enter from within X cm (probably somewhere between 5-10?) of their counter? I see three interesting options for matching units to counters. First, you could number the counters and units in your list, making them operate pretty much the same way as the scenario as written, just with less mess and confusion on the table. Second, you could do as the first, but place the counters facedown, hiding from your opponent exactly which unit will arrive where. Third, you could skip matching them up entirely, and allow any unit to enter from any counter (removing them after the unit moves on).

The only downsides I see would be requiring players to have counters, but since they could be as simple as numbered scraps of paper that's probably fine. The other issue would be Scouts not being able to spread out as much when arriving from reserves, but you could either bite that bullet or allow them to deploy a greater distance from their counter.

Curious - do the Adepticon "Model Rules" apply?

Nope, they're just encouraged.

I sent an e-mail to Adepticon which is supposed to get sent out to the Epic registrants. Hopefully you'll get that today as there's a note in there about your question.

I'm free Wednesday and Thursday before 2 at this point. If we have an odd number for any of the Epic events I'm free then too. Friday I've got Warmaster and Man O' War.

FYI to anyone else who might have missed it, my gmail spam filter picked up the Adepticon email, so you may want to check your spam folders if you haven't gotten it yet.

Also, Dave - when do you need the lists by? I'm debating between two builds, one of which requires painting slightly more models that I'm not sure if I'll have the time for.

I'd like them by the 15th. Lists for the one-offs are less important though. If people get back to me and want to do a tourney on Sunday then it's a bit more critical.

Cheers, I should easily know what I'll have finished by then. And I'm not in on the Sunday game (it conflicted with the BFG tourney) so I get to fall into the less important category.
