Yep, that is a large part of my problem. I usually work hours that no one else I know does (Saturdays and Sundays, evenings etc) so it is easier to get in a game that's play by mail.

However I'm going to try one of these next time I can.

It depends whereabouts in the world you are you though? I'm pretty busy too (I work 45-65 hours a week) but am free most evenings (New Zealand time) which would be mornings UK time (12 hours difference) if that might work.

Glyn, i could probably do a UK morning – NZ evening game some time, possibly even on a week day with notice. Ill have to boot to windows at some point to get tabletop set up. Does it have chaos? can't see chaos in the game files.

Meanwhile, i've set up some fancier looking maps for vassal:

I'd be happy to give it a try. I use vassal several times a week already.

This might turn out to be an interesting way to play test armies across metagame areas.

That would be cool. Perhaps sometime next weekend?

I added 7 new armies to it ages ago but Chaos isn't on there yet sorry. I plan to add all the remaining missing armies to the program, hopefully in the first half of next year, but I'm waiting on a new computer as it'll make the process of doing so a fair bit quicker (and I need to wait till the end of Feb to find out if I can get my visa extended for another year or not to know whether it's worth getting a desktop or not).

Yes I am in Australia. Not available this weekend for all the very best reasons (epic at the club today and the international Xwing tournament -coincidentally on vassal!) but will let you know some time slots. I am sure we can sort a game out soon.

Btw; xwing now has hundreds of players on vassal every day, including many of the regional national and the worlds champions, so It would be good to see it get some epic action too.

Could try for sunday morning/sunday evening?
GMT+0 here now, NZ is +13, so, what's a good starting time for you? 6am UK/7PM NZ? 7/8? 8/9? etc

hundreds of players on vassal every day,

nice, didn't realise it was so popular! I hadn't used it for years until this week. For that sort of competitive play do you use the vassals built in dice rolling system, or a third party site?

What's your specific timezone within Australia Matt (in terms of GMT + ?)

And presumably playing australia vs. anywhere else in world we'd need some agreement on Terrain LoS ('shadowing'?), scout air assault screening etc, as I think you guys play things differently from most other areas?

I am in WA, which is GMT +8.
I work a flexible schedule since some of my work is in the US or UK, so could do a weekday (which I think would be 9am here = 1am UK, or 1pm here = 5pm New Zealand for example).

The built in dice, always.
They have been tested to destruction sinand found to be adequate for international tournaments, results are here:
http://teamcovenant.com/mu0n/2013/10/21 ... -analysis/
http://teamcovenant.com/vorpalsword/201 ... till-fine/

"I ran a different kind of test on the same data set Rekkon generated. I computed Cramer’s V, which is closely related to Pearson’s chi-squared test. Essentially, what this does is spit out a value between 0 and 1 that indicates the level of association between two variables—in this case, between this die result and the next die result. (If you know what a correlation coefficient means, Cramer’s V is the same sort of indicator.) Cramer’s V is preferable to a chi-squared test because they tend to break down with large samples like this one.
Here is the worksheet I used. The association between this die result and the next die result, on a scale from 0 to 1, is 0.03.
So what I found is that results are not clumping together in Vassal, or at least not any more often than you would expect in a random sequence"

etc :D

For terrain, it's always what the players agree before the game, and the infinite height terrain the UK favours is the simplest to use on Vassal anyway since it's a 2D view. Sound good?

Yes I do, but if you're in Washington state and want a vassal game it won't be hard. I play WA USA people all the time because the time zones are easy: Basically 8pm is 8am. :D

Sounds good, thanks for the info. Not so keen on the 1am UK time idea (unless that was a mix up with pm?)! but i can probably do a weekday, maybe next week?

Could also do this thursday (from, say, ~7pm GMT+0) if anyone is free then.

*edit: thread title changed to general vassal (or tabletop) game match-up finding thread. Let's try and get this going again :)

Are the Vassal the ones I did a few years back, or has someone finally improved them? (And does anyone use the deployment area markers? You have no idea how long it took to make the corners one, I was being very dumb. And sorry for some of the units being photos.)

And is vassal that massively frustrating experience still? :) Only glanced at tabletop thread but it must be a lot better?

Didn't find vassal very frustrating last week at all, once we'd muddled our way back into it (neither of us had used it for a while). Thread control is still a bit annoying, but only minor.

deployment area markers – finding these made me very happy! thanks for the hard work TRC!

Tabletop is certainly more user friendly (but then I would say that!) and prettier, not to mention 3d, but doesn't have all the features vassall has, especially for things like replaying the match for battle report purposes etc.
