Jimmy and I ran a Vassal MINIGEDDON game on Sunday, which was
fun and fast and even got a small audience of cheerleaders from different states!
Following this experiment, I am now thinking of organising an Australian-wide League or mini-tournament that would last for a few weeks. The main reason for this would be because using small points sizes and limited activations is a great way to ease in to playing Epic on Vassal.
A secondary reason was because in a game not much longer than an hour with a 4000km distant Jimmy I found out more about certain Dark Eldar units than I have in years of tabletop gaming. I actually think this could develop into a good gaming and play-testing tool (FYI despite the software being as primitive as the stone age, several large companies tolerate/use Vassal for playtesting).
Expect something with a tournament format, but it's a cute 1000pts so purely for fun. Commitment would be something like 1 game a week over 4 weeks. If it proves popular, we could do something in future for other geographic areas; it is just a matter of working out timing vs people in appropriate time zones.
