Close but not entirely correct. ;)

I put all existing units in this list AND came up with stats from units which didn`t exist in Epic for now.

Then i organised them in ways supported by fluff, the Wh40k FOC and Apocalypse Datahsheets which seem to favour groups of 3.

Then i added a specialrule to voluntarily combine two of such "Task Forces" to form a single bigger formation.

Some kind of similar approach to the Imperial Guard i did some time ago:

Read the Cadre limitations... it's 4-12 units

Why are you imposing these limitations?  If anyone has the ability to be flexible enough to field 1-unit formations, it should be the Tau.  And, yes, I am mocking you.

I've already stated my opinion on it on the previous thread.  Seeing this monstrosity in an actual pdf just reinforces two opinions:

1. It will never interact well with other lists (P-O-P-C-O-R-N)
2. You. Are. Insane.

EDIT - I still do believe something like this would be fun for an alternative set of army lists where activation counts would be baselined at +/- 1 or +/- 2. With that set of rules you wouldn't even need the limiters you set in this list!

I just wondered how Epic would be played if every army would be popcorn?

BL - the more formations you have, the slower it plays (trust me on this OK  )

Chroma, I see where you are going, but total flexibility won't really work - as I think you already know deep down. Equally, I thought your idea was not so much the individual formations as the variety of upgrades each formation could take.

I think this might be a lot more acceptable if you changed the format declaring the minimum and maximum of each formation and upgrade of the army list:-

Formation      Units                      Cost            Upgrades
"name"            4-12 Unit name         xxx each    "1-n kkkk", "1-n pppp", "1-n ssss"
.                    Transport name       (+xx each)

This way you could alter the minimum size of each formation and its upgrades as appropriate and cap WE etc. So Fire Warriors might be 6-12 with 1-4 Pathfinders, while Crisis might be 4-6 with 1-2 Pathfinders (or what ever takes your fancy).

Alternatively, you could stipulate the minimum and maximum of each formation size including upgrades, so FW might be 6-12, while Crisis might be 4-8 etc, effectively creating a number of upgrade 'slots' per formation.

Either way it certainly will take a lot of effort to generate something even remotely balanced and I have a strong feeling that it would ultimately end up looking very similar to the current 5.1 list.

Thanks for all the responses everyone!

I've already done something like that in my Vior'la Sept Variant, Ginger... but the point values need to be tweaked.

IMHO, combining the current stats and special rules with this approach would certainly be worth considering. But if you take on-board the comments about the slightly larger initial formation sizes, you do get back to something remarkable close to the 5.1 list.

So the real issue this highlights is that the 5.1 list does not permit multiple upgrades of single units. Well, IMHO that it is certainly an idea worth banking for the future.

It also raises the other question about minimum formation sizes and costs that has been floating around at the back of a number of discussions - again something to be checked up later.
