There has been a lot of work going on in the NetEpic forums for alternative rules so I felt it was about time to try and playtest them!

Specifically, I'll be testing out Primarch's exciting new Titan rules which seeks to return the armoured beasts to their former glory where they were rightly feared almost as much as they were respected;

And I'll also be testing out my own rules adjustments (now known as Net Epic Evolution) which significantly reduces the turn sequence by bringing movement and firing together in the one activation;

Please ignore all posts until the one dated Mon Aug 19, 2013 8:23 pm. This one sets out the full rules and implications of the changes. Previous posts covered earlier ideas for changes which have since been abandoned.

Because of the implementation of these experimental rules sets, expect to see the game in this report work a lot differently from what is usual in a NetEpic battle!

Dark Angels Marines Forces:

Battle company: 850 points
Ravenwing: 500 points
Land Raider Company: 700 points

Medic: 50 points
Warlord Titan 900 points

Victory Conditions

Standard NetEpic Battle. 40VPs required for a win.

Quick update: The game only took 2 hours! In fact it went so quickly that we're going to go again for a second playtest!

So far so good with the rules. Tne one note is that without any Plasma Weapons the D3 system for rolling plasma makes it relatively easy to have the Titan fully powered up.

Because of the playtesting of new rules, I thought it might be helpful to provide a heavily detailed account of the game. Hopefully this will give those interested a better feel of how the NetEpic system will be affected by these changes.

File comment: More Land Raiders join the battle and fire upon the Warlock Titan. The witch-sight psychic ability enables the Titan to anticipate the attack and easily evade the incoming fire.
Note: The next Eldar move has been omitted. A Falcon transported a Warlock into battle, holding position next to an objective (Marine Statue).

File comment: The Warlord Titan strides on to the battlefield. With all systems fully fuelled with Plasma, the Titan senses the opportunity to take out the Warlock Titan. It Charges into position and unleashes a feared Vortex missile at the Eldar battle-fortress!

File comment: Despite rolling for double scatter, the Vortex does not deviate from it's target at all! Bullseye! The Titan's head takes heavy damage but not enough to destroy it! From now on, the Titan will have to roll 4+ before moving or firing! But that's not all! Both Pulsar weapons are destroyed with one so seriously that it causes a flashback, obliterating the wing! The battlefield is filled with the cheers Marines as smoke and flames pour from Titan and the holofields flicker and die! The Warlock is a siting target!

Close combat slaughter! Eldar jet bikes catastrophically underperform across the battlefield and the Host is broken!

Marines have taken 4 objectives, while the Eldar have captured only 2. The Wind Turbine objective is disputed, while the Landing Pad has not been claimed at all yet.

Despite the Warlord's repair systems running at optimal power (4+ save), the Titan only regains one Void Shield. Meanwhile, the Eldar player ends the turn with a little good news as the Vortex dissipates.

VPS:

Marines: 26VPs
Eldar: 10VPs

File comment: The Eldar player wins initiative again and attempts to fire the Warlock Titan, but a roll of 3 means that it is rendered impotent for this turn.

The Warlord Titan tries to take advantage of the situation and returns fire - but the Volcano Cannon misses and hits from the Turbo Laser Destructors simply bounce off of the Titan's deceptively tough armour.

Close combat sees a few more skirmishes across the battlefield but nothing significant is destroyed.

The Land Speeder attacks on Falcons during this turn were largely responsible for breaking the Falcon Host, sending the Marines further into the lead.

The Eldar capture another objective but have still failed to cause significant problems for the Marines. None of their units have been broken yet.

Eldar: 15VPs

File comment: Tempests pop-up but are hit by incoming snap fire from two Land Raider squadrons, destroying one before having the chance to fire. The remaining 2 strip away the Titan's last shields and inflict 2 hits. The armour stands up to the first hit, but the second punches through the thick steel armour on the Titan's head. Explosions rock the deck and panic grips the crew for several moments until a sensor scan reveals that the damage was minimal. Close call!

File comment: Striking Scorpions leap from the Falcons and both the infantry and vehicles engage the Land Speeders in close combat. But the tactically astute Marines are on Advance orders. Unable to be pinned by ground based infantry, they pull away from the Scorpions and, circling around, open fire! Some poor shooting results in only one fatality and the chance to break the squad goes a begging.
