Fifth game played with the Tyranids, this time against a version of Argol's Space Marine list from the EEC in Denmark (where the Maruders and a Razorback have been swapped for Whirlwinds). I played a list heavy on Minor Swarms and with a defensive and quite quick BTS. Wanted to try going for a lot of Harridans, so there are 4 in this list. Also took a cheap Space Ship config with just 2 very small Minor Swarms in, making it easy to get a ton of activations.

Start of turn 1. Genestealers are garrisoned in the houses to the left and on the road to the right. The Nest Swarm is garrisoned in the middle, just within 15cm of the objective. Space Marines garrison Scouts to the right and close to the Blitz. Tacticals on the left start the game inside their Rhinos. Tyranids got Lictors offboard and a space ship with two small Minor Swarms that are sheduled to arrive turn 1. Space Marines got two formations of Assault Marines in a Thunderhawk offboard.

Unsurprisingly, the Space Marines wins the strategy roll.

Turn 1, Activation 3, HFD: Harridan Doubles and gives the Scouts 1 BM.

Turn 1, Activation 4, SM: Predator Annihílators Advance and fires at the Harridan, 3 hits but 3 saves, 1 BM.

Turn 1, Activation 3, HFD: Harridan Doublers and fires at the Scouts in crossfire, 1 BM.

Turn 1, Activation 6, SM: Scouts Doubles and give the Genestealers 1 BM.

Turn 1, Activation 9, SM: Thunderbolts Ground Attacks the Tyranid BTS, giving it 1 BM.

Turn 1, Activation 10, SM Retain: Thunderhawk w Assault Marines uses the reroll to Ground Assault the Tyranid BTS, takes 1 BM on the way in, Assault Marines kills 4 Gargoyles and 3 Malefactors for 3 Assault Marines against, breaks the Tyranid BTS but 4 Zoanthropes and the Dagon Overlord are fearless and survives.

Turn 1, Activation 11, HFD: Harridan Engages the Thunderhawk, losing 1 Gargoyle, leads by 3, breaks and destroys the Thunderhawk.

Turn 1, Activation 18, HFD: Minor Drop Swarm Engage the Warhound, 2 Shields down but no kills, Warhound breaks.

Turn 1, Activation 19, HFD: Minor Drop Swarm Engage the Tacticals in the Houses, kills 1 Rhino and 1 Tactical for 1 Zoanthrope and 4 Termagaunts, SM leads by 2 and breaks the Tyranids, only 2 Zoanthropes survive.

Start of turn 2. The Lictors appears close to the Warhound on the right, and manages to avoid taking any BMs from teleporting. Space Marines wins the strategy roll.

Turn 2, Activation 2, SM Retain: Annihilators Sustain Fire at the Harridan, killing it and breaking the Gargoyles, the Gargoyles hop over to the Hive Nest to be absorbed when it activates.

Turn 2, Activation 3, HFD: Lictors Engage the Warhound, takes OW fire from the Tacticals, but saves the single hit they make. The Lictors kill the Warhound with Sniper FS, and gives the nearby Whirlwinds 1 BM.

Turn 2, Activation 4, HFD Retain: Minor Drop Swarm Engage the Tacticals, loses 4 Termagaunts vs 1 Rhino and 1 Tactical, leads by 2, Tacticals loses 1 Tactical more and breaks.

Turn 2, Activation 5, SM: Scouts Engage the Harridan, kills 1 Gargoyle vs 2 Scouts, fight is even, but Scouts loses rolloff by 1 and breaks.

Turn 2, Activation 6, SM Retain: Assault Marines attempts to Engage the Harridan but fails and moves instead.

Turn 2, Activation 8, HFD Retain: Minor Shrike Swarm Engages the Assault Marines using the reroll, loses 2 Hormagaunts for no damage, HFD leads by 2 and hacks down 1 AM, the lone Captain breaks.

Turn 2, Activation 9, SM: Thunderbolt Ground Attacks the Lictors, kills 3 and breaks them.

Turn 2, Activation 11, SM: Whirlwinds Marshalls and fires at the broken Lictors, gives them 1BM killing 1.

Turn 2, Activation 12, HFD: Minor Shrike Swarm Engage the Assault Marines, no side makes a kill but Tyranids lead by 2 and wins by 3, killing 1 AM and breaking them.

Turn 2, Activation 13, SM: The lone Rhino Marshalls. The Space Marines are out of activations.

Turn 3, Activation 11, SM: SM BTS Marches in order to get an unbroken formation onto the Tyranid tablehalf, and loses the Hunter and 1 Rhino with 2 Tacticals from rolling 1:s when crossing the forest. The Space Marines are out of activations.

Turn 3, Activation 12, HFD: Genestealers Engage the Warhound, killing it for 2 killed Genestealers after 2 rounds of combat. The Genestealsers then breaks.

Turn 3, Activation 13, HFD: The Hive Nest Engages the SM BTS, killing 1 Tactical for 2 Gargoyles in return, leads by 1 but loses the rolloff by 1 and breaks... Had it won the Engage the Tyranids would have won the game!

Turn 3, Activation 14, HFD: Tyranid BTS Doubles.

Start of turn 4. The Thunderbolts took one casualty on the way out from being attacked by the Tyranid BTS's Zoanthropes. Space Marines wins the strategy roll.

Turn 4, Activation 1, SM: Annihilators Advance and fires at the Shrikes, killing all three and giving the Minor Swarm 4 BM.

Turn 4, Activation 2, SM Retain: Whirlwinds Doubles back to the SM Blitz and gives the Harridan 1 BM.

Turn 4, Activation 3, HFD: Zoanthropes Advance and fires at the Tacticals, giving them 1 BM.

Turn 4, Activation 4, HFD Retain: The synapse-less Minor Swarm manages to activate on 5+ Engages the SM BTS kills 2 for 4 in return, loses after 2 rounds.

Turn 4, Activation 5, SM: Thunderbolt fails to activate.

Turn 4, Activation 6, HFD: The synapse-less Gargoyles Engage the Tacticals by the SM Blitz but are killed off.

Turn 4, Activation 7, SM: SM BTS Marshalls and gives the Hive Nest 1 BM.

Turn 4, Activation 8, HFD: Harridan Advance and gives the SM BTS 1 BM.

At this point we conclude that neither side can win the game, and we call it a draw.

Things looked unbelievably grim for Argol after turn 2, as I had managed to completely wipe out a large number of his formations. But he managed to get back into the game and with the thinnest of margins got a formation over at my table half at the end of turn 3. In turn 4 both sides were so battered that we ended up in a draw.

Harridans are really good, fast and fairly shooty, so taking 4 of these wasn't a bad idea at all. The small Minor Swarms in the Space Ship are cheap, but might be a bit too small to stick around for long. Once again the Dagon Lictors proved to be very good at taking out smaller War Engines, their Sniper ability really helps here. Might try to take a lot of these guys in our last game next week, but they're quite match-up dependent. The Major Swarm with the Dagon Overlord didn't get to do much, but they did act as bait for the Space Marine ground assault, indirectly eliminating a serious threat.
