Hi all,

First 'real' game with my BT and facing off against Dark Eldar, so straight in the deep end!!

there could be a couple of stuff ups with the DE unit names though i did try to keep on top of what was activating. just not as familiar with those unit types yet.
apologies for typos etc.
[note: left and right are from active player's perspective, so right for player1 is left for player2]

some pictures just for eye candy sake. not good eye-candy either like fresh redskins or ref frogs, but bad eye-candy like black jellybeans that sat at the bottom of the jar and no one else wants so they went gritty and crusty...

conclusions...

BT are assault-y but a bit cumbersome.
i think Deb was a bit surprised how assaults kinda bounced off the crusader squads a bit, as the DE are assault focus as well.

BT have nothing on the maneuverability of the dark eldar, and struggle a bit to get where they're needed.

Low activation count doesn't help, but reverting to smaller units makes them vanilla marines again without the BT benefits (raw numbers).

there were some suggestions (on the day and from others online subsequently) as to list/unit composition which i've since taken on board and will hopefully put on the table in the near future.

my main takeaway from the post-game discussion was (to paraphrase) that they're stripped back so much, what to they get to make them more BT thematic?

- making deathstorm drop pods a permanent formation rather than leave-at-end-of-turn.
- assault termis get a more fluffy shooter. is still token shooting but now allows crappy fire fight.
also must arrive by teleport, and only 1 formation per army.
- add stormravens for transport.

have some assault termis underway in the factorium...

wasn't going to bother but the changes make them viable again.


bottom line... it was an enjoyable game. as the BT player it very much felt like chasing the DE around the board and then landing into toe to toe ambushes when you did find them. which is probably suitably thematic for both armies. looking forward to the next game.

So we will see some drop downs in the next update, hey... :)
