Played a great game the other day against John with DE v Codex Marines.

Warhound Titan Pack 500 2xWarhound Titan Deployment. The Objectives are placed pretty much opposite each other and heavy on the DE left Flank. I assessed that Marines would deploy heavy on the left flank seeking to contest the objs early so place the bombardment there in there deployment zone with the space craft arriving on turn 1. Marines deploy with a largely refused flank and concentrate on the DE left flank to saturate the Objectives. One scout formation is placed out on the marine left flank to contest the lone obj. Dark elder deploy with a VoP on the right flank to give the DE options and contest the flank if need be. The remaining dark eldar huddle behind cover in the deployment zone. The archon, Haemonculi coven and warriors with dracon remain in the webway.
Turn 1. Marines win priority give to DE DE activate Space craft. Space craft kills 2 marines, 3 BMs on the marines and 1 bm on the warhound. Pin point strips 2 shields and 1 bm on the warhound DE retain Fails to CAP razor wings. Marines double with Landspeeders to shore up marine right flank. DE fail to cap second razor wings. Scouts on blitz go on overwatch. Warriors double and shoot speeders. DE retain and launch warriors from the webway to engage the intermingled speeder formation with another warrior syndicate in support. 1 raider killed, 2 speeders killed. 2 die from spt fire. Marines loose combat by 6. Breaks both speeder formations. Titans double. Shoot at warriors in cover on the obj. kill 3 raiders and 1 inf. Warrior formation broken. Withdraws to cover.
VoP fails to activate. Clears BM THawk ground attack broken warriors. 1 dies. 1 saves. VoP shoots warhounds strips 1 shield. Thawks shoot broken warriors. 1 dead. VoP doubles and shoots unshielded warhounds causing 2 DC. Breaks warhounds. Marines double onto the centre obj. Scouts stay on Overwatch. Everything rallies.
Turn 2. Teleports. Termies come down. Behind Vop and warriors. Mandrakes teleport in next to termies. 1 bm Termies teleport in behind the termies. Scourges teleport in on the other side of the termies. Marines win priority… Sad. Termies engage mandrakes. Mandrakes first strike 2 hits. Both save. Termies 4 macros and 1 normal. 5 hits from DE spt fire. Mandrakes wiped out. Bm for the Warriors and VoP. Termies retain and engage scourges. Kills 4 scourges and scourges do 4 hits back. 1 fail save on the chaplain… who passes invul. Scourges wiped out. Not looking good for the DE. Warriors march from the centre obj to the flank on the marines and speeders and warhounds and drop portal. Haemonculi coven retain and engage marines and call intermingled aslt on two units of speeders marines in rhinos with hunter and warhounds. No kills. Spt fire from marched warrior formations kills 1 rhino and 1 marine. Combat ties on the roll. New combat kills 1 rhino from spt fire. Marines lose combat and lose chaplain to hack down. Marines scatter like roaches and bomb burst to the corners of the table. Marines activate scouts on marine left flank and return to overwatch. DE place razor wings on cap… finally. Marines Scouts return to overwatch on the blitz. Warriors with three stands remaining move and shoot killing the lone broken land speeder. Thawk comes in for the pickup of termies. Razor wings activate cap and place 1 bm on thawk, no damage. Second thawk comes in for the pick up of the other termies. Vop on left activates for a move and shoot. 1 dc from lazer beams and 3 bms from shooting (inc 1 disrupt hit) and 1 bm on termies. Thawk broken. Razors ground attack second Thawk. No damage 1 BM VoP activates and shoots second thawk. 1 dc and breaks it, and places 1 BM on termies. Archon comes out of the webway and engages and supcomd termie formation. Archon formation wiped out. Marines loose 2 termies including sup comd. Im seeing a pattern here… Everything rallied except for termie at the back.
Turn 3 eldar win priority. Razor wings ground attack. Bm on warhounds. Retain and sustain fire with VoP on termies.. Kills all termies. After termies failing 2 saves from the desolator. Titans fail to activate move to secure obj on marine left flank. 3 warriors move and shoot at speeders killing 1 and breaking the formation. And secure one of the objs in the elder half VoP fails to activate. Moves to secure obj. Thawk. Lands on blitz and shoots VoP. Razors fail to ground attack. VOP move and shoot on thawk. Destroying it. Scouts on blitz double to secure the dtf obj on the space marine right flank. Warriors with Dracon engage scouts. No kills win on roll off. One scout dies. Warriors secure two objs. Engage with heamobnculi coven on marines with hunter. No cas. DE up by 4 and roll… snake eyes. Marines roll double 2. 1 marine dies and breaks formation. Marines rally on dtf obj. Termies rally on blitz. Scouts and speeders fail to rally. All DE clears bm NoVCs Turn 4 DE win priority. VoP moves and shoots terminators on blitz. Titans move in and annihilate haemonculi coven, who are still in their transports, with MW fire. Securing blitz. Scouts double back and secure rear obj on the space marine left flank. Razor wings. Activate and ground attack marines in rhinos killing one marine. Breaking the formation. Thawk comes on and lands near DE dtf obj. Vop shoots warhounds taking down two void shields and kills speeder VOP shoots warhounds and takes one dc off. Razors fail to activate. Warriors shoot at titans strip shield and break formation, Warriors retreat to secure blitz.
Game over man…. 1-0 BTS to Marines through vaporising the haemonculi coven. Marines get 1050 VP through Hameoncli, Arcon, Mandrakes, Scourges. Dark eldar get 1900 VP through 2 speeders, 2 termies with supcomd and chaplain, marines with hunter and chaplain. The DE main formations are looking balanced, which is no surprise seeing as though they have been taken largely from the EPIC UK list and stats. I think it is worth investigating the utility of having scourges return to the NETEA stats and/or maybe giving mandrakes and extra attack, but they are already a pretty loaded up unit for 200 points. The game really highlighted that DE need to strike and fade rather than trying to slog it out with marines. The haemonculi changes need further testing before they can be ratified as stable. And again I think it is worthwhile trying out some spam builds with the tormentors and executioner. Cheers, Jim
