Third playtest with the Traitor Titan Legion (TTL) I am developing, this time against the E-UK Space Marine White Scars.

For the latest on the TTL, head over to viewtopic.php?f=82&t=32062

Still playing pure Slaanesh, with an intent to playtest heavy use of Lesser Daemons and Lesser Daemon Engines. Also wanted to playtest the Plasma Incinerator, which is not so restricted to Chaos Undivided as before. It's pretty heavy (6 x MW3+, 60cm, Slow Fire) so wanted to check if it is overpowered.

Painlord with Greater Daemon Possession
Plasma Incinerator, Heretek Shrine, Sonic Devastator, Castigator Cannon
Battle Head, Lust Lash

Reviler with Eye of the Gods
Havoc Warp Missiles, Sonic Devastator, Castigator Cannon
Battle Head, Lust Lash

Questor Titan
Hell-Knights
Hell-Knights
Hell-Striders
Hellblade Squadron
8 Lesser Daemon summoning points

My opponent was playing the Epic UK White Scars Space Marines, which has a number of differences with Adeptus Astartes, especially larger units of Bikes with Walker and only being able to take Terminators in Land Raiders... And being able to add a single Vindicator to Whirlwinds! No-one knows why, and this mystery is actually a big part of why my opponent chose to play this slightly awkward chapter. They're still Space Marines however, so they're not bad.

Terminators in Land Raiders with Supreme Commander
Land Speeder Typhoon
Bikes (8 White Scar Bikes)
Bikes (8 White Scar Attack Bikes)
Whirlwinds + 1 Vindicator
Predator Annihilators
Assault Marines (in the Thunderhawk)
Thunderhawk
Thunderbolts
Thunderbolts

An overview of the set-up. Set the Reviler and Questor to guard the Blitz. The Painlord took pole position on the highway, and the Hell-Knights garrisoned on the right.

Managed to spread out my objectives too much, which meant that the battlefield was effectively cut in two by the huge forest and the built up area.

The White Scars got first turn. They celebrated by opening fire with the Whirlwinds (1) on the Hell-Knights. These responded by making a Marshal (2) and summoning some daemons for added resilience against blast markers. Next came some Thunderbolts (3), killing one Hell-Strider. These also did a Marshal (4) and summoned some daemons.

The Land Speeder Typhoon (5) spotted a chance to shoot at some infantry, but only managed to give the Hell-Knights a blast marker. The Painlord doubled on the road, and managed to unload his Plasma Incinerator on part of the Land Speeder unit. 3 were killed, and they retreated back behind the ruins.

The second wave of Thunderbolts (1) failed to enter the battlefield since they rolled a one. With no more anti-air defense to worry about, the Hellblades (2) attacked the broken Land Speeders. By killing one, the unit was wiped out. The Questor (3) headed towards the centre of the battlefield and fired on the Attack bikes in the ruins.

This gave the White Scars on that flank something to focus on, and they now start to congregate next to the forest. First comes the Attack bikes (4), and next the Terminators (5) in the Land Raiders. The Hell Knights (6) double towards the Whirlwinds, killing 1 and the Vindicator. The Reviler (7) goes into Overwatch.

Now the Thunderhawk (8) and the Assault Marines attack the Questor in the forest, with massive support from the other marines there. Despite this, they only manage to wound the Questor, and it retreats back towards deployment.

The Annihilators (9) sustain fire on the Hell-Knights, but since they have some daemons with them, they're not broken by the fire. Finally the bikes (10) double down to encircle the Hell-Knights on the right.

White Scars win also the second turn, and starts by trying to destroy the two units of Hell-Knights.

First the Bikes (1) engage the Hell-Knights, hoping to wipe them out before the nearby Painlord has a chance to lend supporting fire. This fails, but they win the fight, forcing the lone surviving Hell-knight to retreat. Next the Predators (2) advance and fire on the other unit of Hell-Knights, killing two and breaking the last one. This retreats towards the Blitz objective.

With initiative finally passing hands, the Hell-Striders (3) and two units of Daemonettes on Steeds engage the bikes. After a close fight that went on for three rounds, and making heavy use of their Multi-meltas, they break the bikes. Unfortunately one of them fail a dangerous terrain test while counter-charging, and at the end there's only one broken Hell-Strider left.

The Whirlwinds go next, carefully getting themselves out of the forest, and heading towards the Blitz. They shoot at the broken Hell-Knight, but fail to kill it.

Now the Attack Bikes (1) on the left head towards the Questor behind the forest. The Hellblades (2) attack the two broken bikes and manages to wipe them out. Thunderbolts (3) sweep in and try to kill the Hell-Knight by the Blitz. The Painlord (4) attacks the Annihilators, but only give them a blast marker.

The Thunderhawk (5) makes a ramming attack against the Questor on the left, and with support from the bikes, it is broken. The Reviler (6) decides to sustain fire against the bikes, killing a few. This however creates an opening for the Terminators (7) to get close to the Blitz, having been too scared of the Warp missiles on overwatch up until now. They shoot at the Reviler, stripping it of Voidshields. The Thunderbolts (says 5, should be 8 ) attack the remaining Hell-Strider on the right, killing it.

In the rally phase, both Hell-knights rally, but the Questor declines to do so, even with a re-roll.

Turn three is yet again won by the White Scars. They start the turn by giving the Reviler a blast marker with the Attack Bikes (1), and then engaging both the Questor and the Reviler with the Terminators. Thanks to atrocious saves from the Reviler and flawless saving from the Terminators, they easily win the fight and capture the Blitz.

This is somewhat compensated by two successful attacks by the two surviving Hell-Knights. Thanks to their summoned daemons, the ones by the Blitz (3) engage the Whirlwinds and breaks them. Next the one by the road (4) engage the Assault Marines and wipe them out.

This leaves a hole for the Predators (5) which march over and capture an objective. The Hellblades (6) try to go on Combat Air Patrol but fail their initiative. Two Thunderbolts (7) dash in and gives the Painlord a blastmarker.

The Painlord (8) must then try to march over and contest the objective that the Annihilators are holding to prevent the White Scars from winning. It rolls a one, and with the Supreme Commander used earlier in the turn, the game is over.

A very close game which could easily have gone the other way with some better decisions on my part, and perhaps some better die-rolls. Abandoning the Overwatch with the Reviler in turn 2 was a major mistake, as was not playing it safe in turn 3.

Yet again the ability to summon daemons with the Lesser Daemon Engines prove very useful and very powerful, allowing them to engage and win even with only a few or even a single model left. Not yet sure if it is too powerful however. These are very expensive, fragile and hard-to-rally formations, they can't keep the daemons between turns, and buying significant numbers of daemons effectively means having 1 activation less. More playtest is required!

The Plasma Incinerator suffers from the same problem that all plasma weapons have, and that is of course them being Slow Fire. When put on a slow platform like the Painlord, and with a middling range, it didn't feel particularly overpowered for being a support weapon. It might even be a better idea to take a plasma battle weapon instead.

The Warp missiles were a bit wasted in this fight as there were no Void shields to bypass. Some Vortex missiles, or even Barrage missiles, would have been much more useful. The Terminators in their Landraiders is pretty much the optimal target for Vortex Missiles. Perhaps too much so, which may be worth thinking about.

If you've made it this far, thanks for reading! And do check out the development thread: viewtopic.php?f=82&t=32062

Thanks! I use a camera to document each (or almost each) action. Then I have a Note 10'' that I draw on the pictures with. Will try and be even more diligent at doing this so the pictures don't become too cluttered.
