The game
This was over fairly conclusively! In fact, Bob Hunk was kicking himself afterwards, so we decided not to write it up as a full report.
Essentially, the Imperials garrisoned forward, and the Eldar lurked behind the big cathedral, allowing the Astartes to capture all the home objectives and push on to two of them in the Eldar half.

By the time the counter-attack came, the Imperials were well entrenched. The Warlock got isolated and broken by the combined power of the Reaver, Land Raiders and two Tactical formations, losing its holofields in the process.

Unable to make a decent counter-attack, the Eldar got stuck between the hill and the Cathedral. They shot up a Devastator and Tactical formation and stripped the shields from the Reaver, while the Ultramarines' scouts tied down the Revenants. The Ultramarines returned fire on the Eldar and destroyed the Warlock, before doubling up to capture the objectives in the enemy half.

At the end of turn 3, it was 3–0 to the Ultramarines – Break Their Spirit, Take and Hold and Defend the line to nothing.

Thoughts
We've played with very similar forces before, using the v1.1 iteration of the Eldar Titan Clan list. *Link*
This time, the downgraded Holofields (3+ then 5+; rather than 3+ then 3+) were far less effective. We both felt that this change was a good one that made the Titans feel more 'Eldar'.

The reduction in costs on the Marine list meant that my normal army lists are about 150–200pts cheaper than they used to be.

Overall, the Eldar Titan Clan was far less daunting to face than before.

when did the eldar titans ever have a 3+3+ save?! even swordwind had holofields as 3+5+
anyway, thats a good result i guess, given how the ETC are generally considered to be too good, seeing them so soundly thrashed is a good sign

QFT

I was worried it was the other way around when you posted in the ETC thread.

10 VS 6 Activation's probably was a bother also. I didn't see any AC for the Eldar, has he thought about giving some a try? With 2 PF Battle Titans I'm surprised he did so poorly.

Thanks again for the report! Hope to see more!

How much of the loss was down to Strategic error though...?

the point is that it is possible for the list to lose due to player action. from the way some people where talking, it was as though putting down the ETC list meant you'd win unless the dice where massively against you, and that strategy and tactics where un-needed. clearly that isnt the case.

It was intimidating to face, but as noted, it is possible to beat. To be fair, Bob Hunk (the Eldar player) was kicking himself afterwards, as he thought he'd made some really basic errors.

He's keen for a rematch next week, so we'll get a proper battle report up then.

Thanks! I've been gradually painting up my army and building up the scenery over the past year, and now I'm getting on to painting the scenery properly. I think a good board is conducive to a good immersive game and a friendly, involved atmosphere :)
