I too like the idea of being able to play anyone anywhere, it's a heady notion... but I'm concerned for the modelling/tabletop aspect.

I'm sorry to say this makes me sad. I miss all the nice pics of Hena's tabletop battles. Is this the sign of things to come?.. :sigh:

EDIT: Apologies for soapboxing on your thread.

amen to that Hena :)

the only thing I don't like about the pics is that the models are so small I have trouble getting any idea for what's what (in spite of the labels).

We fought the battle to its bloody conclusion after 4 messy turns yesterday, but I´ll leave it to Hena to provide the details.

My battleplan was rather straightforward: Get the Warlord into the centre woods with good LoF everywhere and between my T&H objectives, use the Tacs and Scouts to establish a blocking line from north to south, hammer away with artillery and assault or break through with the bikes at some weakness in the line.

Regarding T1, failing the first activation was a triple blow: I was now down one activation, handed the Scions the initiative and they could be sure that the SB and CAS T-Hawks would not be CAPped or intercepted, leaving air defence in the hands of my 2 Hunters...

T2 commentary:

The idea was to have the Warlord shrug off the worst the Scions could throw at it, using it as a sort of big bait. Since I actually used an activation to guard it anyway (setting the black Tac on OW), I should have gone ahead and just blown something to little bits, the tan Tac or the Prometheus formation for example, leaving the Termies to maim the black Tac instead.

AA was seriously beginning to fail me, I couldn´t hit or scratch the Thunderhawks, thankfully their aim was getting erratic later on...

Failing to march the white Tac was also going to cost me, as this spelled the end of my maneuver warfare, and started a phase of the game where I was basically trying to hold the line.

T3/4

With the Warlord thankfully not blowing up despite 2 crits, I was hoping to rally it eventually, which might have turned the scales on this battle. It didn´t, so I was forced into a delaying action.

With the T-Bolts decimated and the Hunters inefficient, the bombing runs become more and more brazen, no more maneuvering to avoid one Hunter, straight in and exiting via friendly edges became the norm, hammering my forces.

I desperately tried to turn the tan Tac through repeated bombardments and direct fires, but made too few hits while Hena saved well.

In the end the accumulated losses, some clever assaults by my opponent, lack of a lucky break and the unrallied Warlord spelled doom for my valiant Marines.

Congrats to Hena for a well-earned victory!

On turn 2. I really expected to see the Black Tacticals double and fire on Terminators. Then I would have used the Warlord to engage both Terminators and Heavy Tacticals. It would have had all shields and thus a good advantage. Especially with BMs on it's side.

I really felt problematic on turn 4 when my Prometheus' assault failed. I suddenly didn't push through the line. I think that had Black Tactical moved to hold their own objective it would have gone to point counting.

I just got too smart in early T2 and should have stuck to simple plans!
Besides, your scouts had not only pulled far above their weight in T1 shooting but had also resisted my attempts to break them, which shielded your Terminators nicely and also prevented me from moving the Warlord any further north!
:;):

Regarding T4, I was looking for victory by some dark miracle, which surprisingly didn´t happen.
Accursed tan Tac sucking up all my firepower...

Very cool batrep (I must try Vassal soon).  Question for each of you:

What is your feeling on the Scions list as it relates to its tournament readiness?  How is its balance overall?  Are there any formations that are over/underpriced or units over/underpowered?

Scions felt okay, though this was presumably not a powergamer´s list.

The tanked-up formations were a definite problem, despite my 6 TLLC-RBs. If I had used the Warlord better and gotten it to shoot up a couple of formations, the Scions would have been in deep trouble, but I threw away that opportunity in T2 and never got a second chance.
