:) Ok a bit silly of a subject line ...

I'm looking at proxy-ing a Landa and want to use some sort of flight stand or more specifically a standard base with the stick in the middle that the model sits on. I think by doing this the size of the Landa won't matter as much and people can't say I'm modelling to advantage.

Enough background then, let's say you're an Ork Landa. What size base should you be on? 25mm square? 50mm square? 30mm round? 40mm round? Rectangular?? I think it's important because of how the ground attack works that the base is an appropriate size, but maybe I'm being ridiculous?

Thanks!

Joel

If you're not going to magnetize it so the landa can pop off I'd make the base the same size as the landa. That way when you air assault you can barge/CC/disembark accurately.

He specifically doesn't want to do that so he's not as constrained, and I can see his point as I'm of the same opinion. I'm in the process of permanently basing my Thunderhawks and Landas now as their irregular shape (do you count the wings?!) and large size leads to both problems and potential to abuse rules in equal measure.

As a reply to the OP, I'd direct you to Kyussinchain's Imperial Fists, specifically how he's based his thunderhawks for inspiration.

That is almost EXACTLY how I was thinking of basing it, but I need to know how big it should be!

Ok, I'll get more specific. I've been trying to find a proxy or a base model that I like to make a Landa. Then I saw this:

and thought it had some good potential. It's a 3 part model so I don't need to add the handle bars. I fix up the seat so it looks less seat-like, possibly put some sort of wing-like items to cover the seat area and there you have it! However, I was worried it might be a bit big, but then I thought if I based it like In the picture or like how that person has based his Thunderhawks, then I could still use the figure and the size/shape of the model would not be an issue. This way I would be happy and my opponents would be happy.

Perhaps I should be asking this question ore locally?

Thanks for the input!

Joel

That model looks awesome for a landa (if I hadn't already ordered 2 1/200 scale chinooks to kitbash, I might be stealing your idea!). That looks like a 40mm base, which should be fine considering a DC3 warhound is normally mounted on a similar base.

I believe kyussinchain's bases are the medium Flames of War ones, so 30mm by 40mm I think?

Thanks for that comparison to a Warhound! That's exactly the sort of comparisons / thinking / justification I'm after! Also, thanks for boosting my confidence that I haven't just wasted AUS$25 on a bit of junk I'll never use! ;D

I'm gonna try to build 2 Landas of my own also. Can post the results and we can see who made it work. I'm not too confident i can get it good looking...

I saw those Landas and I'm sure they'll be fantastic. I needed something to use before January though. Plus I think he said it's a potential stretch goal, so there's the possibility of it taking longer or never being made. I only ordered one, so I can always get another and/or change it into a killkroozer or something.
