Since I have accidentally started collecting Orks I have started seeing what tactic I could use, and what formations to use.

In doing so I have noticed that Landas can transport Buggies, deth koptas, dreads, skorchas and all sorts of other big things.  Yet they can not carry big gunz.

Is this a typo that I have missed in the errata, or is it banned on balance issues?

Welcome to the Green side.

They weren't allowed to carry big guns as these could be upgraded to soopa guns and supa-zzap guns, which was seen as a bad thing for some reason...

Plus, who's going to waste a Landa transporting all those weedy grots?  They don't even count for a decent mob... :p

Well you could put a big gun in a warband to give it some more dakka and still have some Orks around.
