I've been thinking about the Daemons in NetEA Chaos and LatD. It's unfortunate that taking anything but Tzeench for alignment is way sub-Apr when it comes to Daemon summoning. That got me thinking about what makes the Flamers so much better than the rest.

It's clearly their FF focus as it allows them to fight at full effect at 15cms and also support neighbouring engagements. None of the other Daemons have a FF attack worth a damn.

But back in 2nd Ed 40k every unit of Daemons (apart from Khorne) would be the equivalent of a Psyker using their patron's deck of powers. Could this be used to justify a FF attack for the Daemonettes and increasing the Plaguebearer's FF?

I'm still out of ideas for the Bloodletters as they had no spells but at least it may make the other two a bit more comparable to the Flamer

Interesting suggestion, flamers are definitely the best choice currently. Plaguebearers had their FF (and CC) dropped a couple of years ago as they were the best choice at that point

It was just a thought as I feel its a bit of a shame to have four types but in the back of my mind its always "just take tzeentch, don't walk against the crowd, they're clearly the best...."

Could be a contributing factor to commonly only seeing Thousand Sons out of the four Cult lists?

It's definitely an interesting bit of fluff/crunch history to keep in mind.

However, this still leaves Bloodletters in a lurch, and they are definitely in need of help.

Is there a general consensus as to whether non-Flamer daemons overall are too weak, or are Flamers too strong and crowding the others out? We don't want this to be a case of buffing already strong units any more than we want a race to the bottom.

Personally I think if Flamers were FF5+ I would still take them, but it would be less of a no-brainer.

Probably the best indication of under/over power might come from play testing the daemon incursion list. The list sports groups of 8 of each core daemon choice.

I plan on fielding both Flamers and Plague Bearers (very good armour value) in my LatD Redux army. So at least for me it is not just Flamers are the best and only option... :)

Or just do what the Daemonworld list does and use the Horror stand as the "regular" TZeentch daemon - one 3+ FF attack only.

Ya, reducing the number of FF attacks would go a long way towards evening them all out. I've never seen a Slaanesh mark on a formation outside of the EC games. It's usually Tzeentch, sometimes Nurgle and one player does Khorne but only on Dreadclaw or Terminator formations.
