GUO and Plague Tower

Opinions on these units and changes (if any needed)?

THESE ARE THE CURRENT STATS FOR REFERENCE
Great Unclean One
WE 15cm Armour 4+ CC4+ FF4+
Nurgling Swarm (base contact) (assault weapon) EA(+1)
Stream of Corruption (15cm) (small arms) Ignore Cover EA(+1)
AND 15cm 3 BP Ignore Cover
DC4
Notes: Fearless, RA, Walker, INV, Inspiring, daemonic focus
8 Summoning points



Plague Tower
WE 15cm Armour 4+ CC4+ FF4+
Plague Mortar 60cm 3+D3 BP disrupt Fixed forward arc

The GUO has fearless twice but is missing demonic focus and a summoning cost.

I put up the stats just as a reference of what they currently are, does anybody have an issue with the units?

I've always been happy with them. Speed is the issue for the tower, but I wouldn't increase it.

So doing a comparison the GUO looses ignore cover on it's extra FF attack, looses it's +1 extra CC attack for the nurglings and looses expendable (which all other GDs in the tournament pack have)?

Can you explain the reasons for these change Steve? I wasn't aware the GUO was felt to be overpowered or in need of reductions. It would be a shame to loose the Ignore Cover FF in particular as it seems very appropriate for the small arms attack, as it's basically a stream of vomit so wouldn't really be impeded by cover, in a similar way to a Heavy Flamer.

I'd rather leave the existing stats unless there's a very strong reason to change it. No MW seems fine to me, it does have one more DC and attack than other GDs after all.

Your Plague Tower stats look identical to the existing ones, am I missing something? I have never used one, but have thought about the options and don't think it looks that worth it. I'd choose Contagion Engines over it every time as they can garrison and be in range turn 1 while a direct fire 60cm gun on a slow 15cm move transport doesn't seem that great.

Any changes are typos, I've put the stats up for reference for if people want to change them

The Greater Demons in the Tournament Pack all have Expendable. They don't in the Compendium or the Epic-UK list. Is Expendable on them a mistake in the TP?

The GUO is less killy than the other GDs, but is tougher with the extra DC so can take up an extra enemy hit. If a boost is wanted, I think my preference would be to give it's stream of corruption attack disrupt as well as ignore cover. Getting covered with corrosive demon vomit would be pretty disruptive for a formation you'd think and it fits with the nurgle disrupt theme.

If the Plague Tower needs a boost (it doesn't look very good to me but I haven't used it myself) then a simple option could be to reduce its cost slightly to 300?

Rookie player here, so take my feedback with a grain of salt... :)

I just can't find a good reason to include the Plague Tower in my lists, especially when it's so expensive and doesn't serve a clear role.

Is it a transport? Because it's too slow.

Is it artillery? Because I'd rather have Basilisks or Contagion Towers.

And in the LatD list, when support choices are so limited (1 per coven), you just have tons of better options.

If it was up to me, I'd place it in the transport category and maybe make the weapons more short range. At least then it would conceivably be used to rush up to formations, pushing troops out of the way, and disgorge 16 mutants right in their midst supporting with it's (pretty powerful) FF and CC values. And depending on how the stats/cost panned out, I might even take more than one (since you can take up to 3 using only one support slot).

Just my 2 cents.
