Hi - I've started an iron warriors army. It's going to look a bit different to the standard colours - more like an iron warriors cult formed out of renegades so showing some different patterns with common themes. I am therefore including a fair few codex marines. Anyway, the reason I'm posting is simply to say that the harbinger looks massively overcosted at 450 points. I would like to be able to back that up with playtest evidence but it's so expensive I could never bring myself to even trial it. I think at 300 it would still be an unattractive option. I assume these are rarely taken as the model is rare but at 450 points there is no incentive to kitbash one which is a shame because they're an otherwise interesting and unusual unit.

If you can't be bothered trialing it then you can't expect the powers that be to listen to you...

As said above, if you wont test it no point to really say anything bad about it. A flyer that has 4 DC is pretty good, add on the fact its RA. No it doesent have massive TK weapons, but it has decent weapons and 6BP is a lot better then your giving it credit for, along with it being IC also.

Small note, nothing to do with the actual list (which I haven't had a chance to try yet, but have read through it), but for fluff reasons here it is.

There is no Dark Mechanicus.

What used to be the Mechanicum pre-heresy, became known as the Dark Mechanicum post-heresy, the Adepteus Mechanicus was what the loyalists who didn't side with Horus became to be known as.

So:

Mechanicum = pre-heresy
Adepetus Mechanicus = post-heresy good guys
Dark Mechanicum = post-heresy evil guys

Hey Guys

I'm finally going to do what I've wanted to do for a while and that is to finally get into some chaos fun and of course there is none better then the strength of iron.

Just wondering if there are any units I should be looking at in particular.

Im aiming to go for a very seige based army with ability to close in and smack them around after my guns do their stuff.
So looking at Defilers, Dreadnaugts, Reaaver and Basilisks to go with landraiders of course

Any tips or pointers would be great :)

Cheers
Caz

Hey Caz, good to have you on board mate! (get tired of Riptides eh :) )
Sounds like you've got the bases covered.
The Ordinatus is fun but sometimes it's an anchor.
Drop-podding the Dreads is always fun and the spaceship is really useful.
Don't forget the Warsmith and Scouts.

Thanks for the info Starfish.

Chosen – 125 points
Ravager Titan – 650 points
Defiler Assault Pack – 425 points

Dreadnought Assault Pack – 5x dread claw – 250 points

Hi Onyx,

Question for the armylist (don't know if others have asked the same):

The Chaos Basilisk upgrade doesn't seem to be available to any of the formations. Will this change in the future?

I've played Iron warriors before using a different armylist, that had the ability to field 6 basilisk artillery units in a single formation. They dished out quite a pounding, and i really missed that option in your list. I would therefore suggest that the Artillery Battery Support Formation, should be given this upgrade option.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The latest (and final) version is available for download is available from the first post in this thread.
Try not to get too hung up on some of the proxy models I've used in the playtest document! ;D ;)

Changes for V3.1 (most likely the final version)
11th November 2015
- Increased the Artillery Battery to 4 Basilisk for 325pts (in line with EpicUK Iron Warriors)
- Removed the Basilisk upgrade
- Changed Dark Mechanicus to Dark Mechanicum
- Removed Stormswords from the list

So all we need now are 18 battle reports using V3.1 from various places around the world and this list should gain approval.
I'd still like some power gamers to try and break the list!
I want the Iron Warriors list to playable and fair.

THANKS!

Great! Thanks for posting the update.

What was it before, am I correct at 300 for 3? If so this is a significant improvement to the unit, increasing cost by 25pts and doubling its barrage templates. I'm not saying that wouldn't be warranted (the unit probably wasn't quite good enough before), but it certainly makes it better than Steel Legion's 3 basilisks for 250 (SL pay 83 per chassis and 250 per template, while this would be 81.5 per chassis and 162.5 per template, in a higher SR army).
It is, as you mentioned, in line with EpicUK Iron Warriors though.

I'll ask around and see if anyone knows any.

100pts per Basilisk was way over-priced. No point in comparing the new formation set up to the old as the old one was not right. I did the maths (as you've laid out) before uploading V3.1 and I'm fine with it.
