Draft 0.5wip of the Chaos Titan Cult Union:

Deleted Warhound packs.
Titan costs reduced considerably (to what they should have been)

added warhounds, using the same epithet system.
added two new epithets -barbaric and ghastly

Epithets and weapons then adjusted and balanced for cost.

added new hosted formation - berzerkers

added demon knights, with the option to use any warhound weapon.


Still to do:

Spacecraft.
Imperator.

Fixing barbaric - I think I will swap the (base contact) EA(2+) for a (base contact EA(+1) TK(d3) to represent huge jaws. That should make the epithet worth more, bringing the cost of cheapest titan up to a more sensible price.

Fixing Vicious - it's near impossible to balance as it makes titans exponentially better the more CCw's they have. The output price from a 4 CCW titian to a 4 rocket launcher one can be up to 200points difference!

Fixing CC weapons. I might just calibrate them against the ATML powerfist as that seems reasonably balanced.


How would people like to see the imperator handled?

the imperator basically has 4 huge weapons and 4 turret weapons
the warmonger has 2 huge weapons, a fire control tower and 4 turret weapons

EDIT - oh yeah- the warmonger has leg bastions, which bring it to four large weapons too.

hmmm. on closer inspection the imperator has leg bastions too- suggesting the fire support tower = 2 weapon slots

Do people want a CCW imperator?
the theme of the list is assault, but we're looking at a huge, slow titan with traditionally immense long range firepower.
Shrinking the range of the guns means they have to be exponentially more powerful (or the titan cheaper)
Shrinking them all the way to CCW would get ridiculous.

On the other hand, without CCWs most of the epithets are less valuable, so I guess either way the Chaos Imperator will end up cheaper then the imperial counterpart.

Ok. I'm looking at doing the big bad boy this way:

3 basic weapons (CCW, gatling, cannon) and one special from the following ( Warpfire Missile, defence laser, blast of chaos (BM weapon) - to ensure it can always reach out and touch someone)

it gets one hosted formation+ transport automatically, and can increase this to two with epithets. This also bumps the formations numbers possible with it, making it less crippling to take.

Undoubtably cool but probably only from a "wow that's weird and strange thing to see" perspective. It'd probably take an entire game to even get into position. Unless we're talking about recreating the Siege of the Imperial Palace, probably not.

I recall a Chaos Imperator Titan called Abominatus in one issue of the Firepower magazine. It had a CC-weapon.

The Dies Irae is also pretty iconic, from what I remember of Storm of Iron it was still rocking the standard armamant, same with the one in Titanicus. It might be a good way to bring the cost down if you removed the Hellstorm canon in favour of a CCW as that would nicely remove the competition between the two BP weapons the Loyalist currently has.

Played a game with the loyalist one recently too, they truely are something to behold on the tabletop!

So something as simple as swapping the hellstorm out for a TK, Ignore cover, 6x Attacks CCW?

People don't want something more flexible?

hmmm. thinking it over carefully, I think I'll go for the flexible thing, simply becuase it keeps all titans in the list using the same dynamic, a lot of imperators now are cobbled together from parts so I don't have to worry too much about the stock model, and mostly becuase I've got the bulk of it coded already

This has been too long without an update.

Steve has indicated he'd like to see this progress (eventually) into an official NETEA list (hence the sticky)

Just to reassure people, I'm not aiming for the definitive chaos titan list, just one possible version that plays significantly differently to the Imperial one.

Also, people actually play testing this would be good. The Imperator is still under work before I add him in, and there's STILL no spacecraft, but I'd like to know how my point estimates feel in a real game or dozen.

minor hiccup, I've been forciibly upgraded to mac, so can't access all of my old calculation files.

It's just a matter of finding a pc, downloading the right software and converting, so no worries.

shameful neglect continues.

1) real life has been biting down hard. as always :) (did I mention I've moved again?)

2) I've been increasingly unhappy with the projections regarding cc weapons. raw damage isn't a good measure of effectiveness, since combat breaks formations much more effectively. So I'm trying to find a way to take account of that and reboot the list. General costs shouldn't change, and it might even be something that could be solved with playtesting - there's far less combinations to check then for the ranged weapons.

3) most modelling time I've had has been taken up with actual modeling: this list will need play testing soon, and I need to put together a force to do that.

so the list isn't abandoned, but if anyone wants to adopt I'll support you as far as I can. If not, put some sample lists together, roll some dice or even just theory hammer what we have. I'm refusing to start any new lists until this and the Stygian Abyss ones are settled.
