Hi All

Attached below is the Chaos Squat army list.

Please let me know what you think of the army.

From this point I will invite discussion and look to update any changes as discussion allows.

In the meantime, enjoy re-using all those minis that do not have a home in current army lists!

Fluff vs list composition query on slave/chaos squat balance:

If chaos squats are now a dwindling race with relatively few members who therefore rely on a large slave population, being able to take 1 slave caste/malorcs per CS core seems a bit limited. This means that at most you get a 1:1 ratio of chaos squat formations vs non chaos squat subject formations (assuming your taking infantry options). Just wondering if more slaves/malorcs per CS choice would fit the fluff better?

I know what you mean, I had the same thoughts at one time.

I did not think about the restrictions and then the 1:1 ratio. In effect, I could potentially even move the Chaos Squat bikes to the Core allocation and make the Support a 2:1 option.

Hmm. That's a good point. Let's leave it for a few weeks as it is and I will come back to it. Just need a break from it for a week :P

Required Changes:

1. Review what is Core and what is Support to encourage the 'fluff' element of Chaos Squats not being as numerous

2. Slave Caste to gain CC4+ ---> This was a design that was forgotten in the pre V1.0 versions. It justifies the formation's cost and provides 'explosive collars' with the attack they were designed for. (thanks Morgan Vening for the idea and for the reminder)

That's it for now. Plan is to update the list in about 1 week

I was also wondering why road pries has the same FF as Buggy, given that road priest has had its guns removed.

Also if up to 4 bikes can be replaced by buggies, any reason not to let them all be replaced, if buggies are the CS's 'thing' compared to squat bikes?

That is a reasonable suggestion. That way you could leave it up to the player how they balance their CC as opposed to FF and shooting. Leave that one with me.... I will look into it.

Shouldn't the "4x" be written in front of and not after the brimstone missiles?

Does the Zigganook recieve 1 extra FF attack per Heavy Las Blaster (for a total of 6 FF attacks)?
Would the Mole be better suited as a War Engine, being as it can transport 4 units, thats quite a lot for a AV sized vehicle?

I'm really liking the look of this army :) .

No, just +1FF for a total of 3FF due to be a 2DC WE. I can see how that could be read differently however. Maybe I will re-position that 4x...

Hmm. Squat lists also have it as an AV. I would not mind it as a WE either and I was actually thinking that I should put in the Hellbore as the 'giant mechanical worm' alternative. I will place that on the list for consideration as well.

Happy to hear it. I am currently spending time replacing formations at present and removinbg the '1 per 1000' restriction I have there so it should really open the list up more.

I also have Apoc working on some idea for altrernative support engines (Engines of Hashvaht). Here is some of the exciting ideas he wrote and is going off to work on:

Reason/Fluff: Regular squats do not have tanks ...... chaos squats built some of the Khorne war engines. As the CSs lost squat technology or were unable to maintain it, their remaining knowledge of squat tech mingled with their dabbling in chaos daemon engines resulting in an eclectic mix of non-standardized CS armour.* Unit looks would range from prototype daemon engine, to squat/khorne gear mixes, to captured/looted vehicles (from slave raids etc?) refitted by the CS engineers.

This is definately something I can work with and should add to the list either as a formation (on it's own or to replace the Artillery support), or even as upgrades to existent units.

One thing that sticks out (to me) like a sore thumb is the Fearless on the Death Dealers. I personally do not like it, however if I am to keep parity with the Chaos lists, then I guess it stays...

Next release for feedback will be V1.2. I bailed Morgan Vening up before he left for Gencon and we came up with the following structure:

1.
Core Formations - as current
Chaos Squat Support - purchased on a 1:1 basis with a 'Chaos Squat Core' formation - includes the Damburi
Slave Support - purchased on a 2:1 basis with a 'Chaos Squat Core' formation - These would include every unit that is not a Chaos Squat or Damburi.

2.
The restrictions on 1 per 1000 (as advised above) will be removed for playtests - open up the list and let's see what happens

3.
Road Priest would be priced at 25 points (currently free)
Slaves to gain 4+ CC
Doombane to up it's firepower to 2BP



To be reviewed:
- Bikers are being reviewed to see if a 3+ CC is justified
- Moles as WE
- Hellbore inclusion
- Option whether 100% of bikes can be replaced by Warbuggies - currently swaying against this (personally) as I want the 'Mad Max' feel to this unit.

More later this week. Keep the ideas coming as the list is still developing


I do like Onyx's Giant Mechanical Worm....chaos Hellbore anyone?

I think this is how I'll make my Sentinels of Hashvaht.
DRM Andrayadan walker with a bit of Otterware. The plastic top piece will vary between skulls, chaos icons etc (not so keen on the 3 spikes in the photo - looks a bit like a chicken ::) ).

I've also got a mole miniature coming in the mail from th UK... runs out to check the mail box! Not here yet... ???

Nice sentinel, im going to try to use mostly GW parts, I was thinking of using the OOP epic metal robots for sentinels, maybe decorated with some fine chain?

And yes please to mechanical worms :D Im just not sure how they work as transports (where are exit/entry points etc). The Exodus wars tunnelling machine is interesting as well (for smaller mole size maybe).

Im not sure you need to keep the fearless on the death dealers, could you make a subtle name change? Once in full chaos service the daemons in the death dealers probably grow in power/are augmented by spirits at the command of the more powerful chaos warlords. The 'fresh off the production line' CS death dealers could therefore be non-fearless.

A 2:1 slave support sounds like a sensible structure.

I also may vary some of the mechanical claws by using plastic Ork Dreadnoght/Killa Kan arms (a bit less oversized).

I agree. Compared to your other works, those 3 spikes look lazy

Well here is the question: Are they sentient?

If so, I could drop them back to 'Resolute' (the same as the formation they are with and neater as a unit). If not, then they become standard mechanical vehicles 'pre daemonisation'. A step before the Lord of Battle if you will...
