So is there a modern Chaos list - mix of Chaos Space Marines, supported by cultists and deamon engines? Seems like there has been a deliberate design philosophy to only ever include two of those three things (and never marines and cultists). |

The Vraksian Renegadea get close - traitor guard for the core, some superheavies, limited Alpha Legion support - but nothing that combines CSMs, cultists, and demon engines in one list. I can’t really speak to why or give you an official answer, but my suspicion would be thematic dilution in the 3000 to 4000 point range. It’s a lot of different units and as an AC your choices are either permit wholesale cherry picking, or to require lots of core units to unlock further options as to make it extremely clunky and less competitive. Generally speaking, the design philosophy has been to select a strong central theme and build the list around that. A kitchen sink list by definition makes building a defining theme difficult. |

Although you could mock it up pretty easily by taking a Lost and the Damned force and adding a couple of CSM retinue formations. |

Very true. I’ve played at least one doubles game with my Iron Warriors and a Lost & the Damned teammate (although drop Black Legion might have worked better) |
