Any chance of making limited editions of the classical Centaur available, if you get enough requests?

I'l entertain specific requests, but they'll not be appearing as part of the standard CH line. ?

Remember that so far as I am concerned I am building the CH range to stand alone within its own setting and background. ?I know that there are already some very popular existing systems out there which means that at the moment people are looking at the CH stuff purely as a means of plugging holes in existing collections. ? However, the plans for CH don't really take other ranges or universes into consideration.

So bear with me if I seem harsh in doing things differently to other companies and remember that this is only the start of the process. ?As the range and support materials grow I think you'l find that CH is worth looking at in its own right.

has anyone played this game?

i quite like the idea of controlling a brigade of troops  , with a base representing a company, ive had a quick skim through the rules and it looks like it might be ok.

I havent seen the CH minis in the flesh but i have loads of Baccus Napoleonic and they are great...........

so has anyone got any info on how it plays etc? :)

As far as I am aware, the rules are a derivative of Polemos, with similar base sizes. They are available for free from:

http://www.commandhorizon.com/?page_id=26

I have a number of the Centaur miniatures, and I really like them. Good detail, and designs that are a little different from a lot of alternatives out there.

I think that the only down side for me is the basing. The requirement to have three tanks on a larger base, and the stats on the back means that my minis wont then work for other games. That said, you could just throw down a piece of card, place the minis on it and draw the stats as well.

Generally, I would recommend taking a closer look at CH.

CH are actually a very different system to the Polemos mechanics.  The only thing they share in common is the 60x60 bases.

Personally, I think basing the models has huge advantages.  You can use the opportunity to make some quiet stunning mini-dioramas and really bring the models to life.  Even more importantly to my mind, it protects your valuable paint work as you can pick up and move the bases without touching the tanks.  Thirdly, instead of having to move 60 odd individual vehicles you only have 20 or so bases to shove around, thus making the game flow quicker, and allowing you to use bigger armies.

im very keen to give these rules a try, so ive made some temporary bases for my DRM stuff, and using the handy points system in the CH rules ive come up with some basic units for my PAX and Andrayada.

I stuck my minis to the bases with blue tac , the bases are 70 x 70mm instead of the recommended 60 x 60mm, because the DRM figs are larger than the CH ones.

Im all set for a test game later today (hopefully).
ill let you know how we get on. :)

cheers
steve

Great. Let us know your thoughts. I managed to catch up with Peter yesterday, and he mentioned that he will be putting together another update as soon as he can. I am sure that he would appreciate feedback from a mew player.

We finally got around to having a test game of command horizon yesterday.

We like it.

The game plays very differently to any other sci/fi game we have ever played.  basically it works like this:
Armies are organised into brigades.each brigade contains between 3 and 6 battalions.the smallest unit is the company. (typically 4-6 companies in a battalion.<
in addition you can have brigade support in the form of artillery, scouts, aircraft etc.
Each turn your brigade commander rolls for how many CH (Command Horizon) points he has for the turn.  then he allocates them to his battalions.  (Each battalion has a CH rating, from 1-4, indicating how many orders it can carry out in a turn).
3 types of orders can be given - move, shoot, and unzip(rally/regroup).  Then the battalions carry out their orders, in any order.  shooting is very simple, each base has a number of attack dice(depending on the weapons it has) and each stand has a number of defence dice. (depending on whether its infantry, armour etc).  Morale is similary very simple, for each destroyed unit and each suppressed unit you roll dice to see whether it effects the status of the battalion.  For each battalion lost that turn you roll dice to see whether it effects the brigade status. It took about 3 hours to play a large game, which was the first game we have played, and was a lot of fun.  the game itself was a very close run thing with the Pax beating the Andrayada but only just.

The fast moving Vultur cohort swoops in and takes out the extremely effective but vunerable Pax artillery!

some thoughts.

Artillery-  we made a special order for indirect fire.  If its used then the artillery cant move but may fire indirectly so long as another unit in the army can trace a line of sight to the target.  Also a comms check was diced for, if failed then no artillery fire.

Measurements - In the rules this is all in base widths, i changed this for inches, just to keep it simple, so the basic move of infantry became 3" instead of 1BW etc.

Rules for warmachines are needed, the megawalker was reduced to scrap metal a bit to easily, i may give it multiple hits, ie 3 strikes and your out...need to think about it.

Reaction phase - where it says that units can shoot, i changed it to say except indirect artillery or airstrikes.

i hope this was useful to anyone thinking of giving the game a go, definately worth checking out.

cheers
steve
