Well, Baccus has made available a PDF of their 6mm sci-fi rules Available here.  I've given them a quick read over and have come to the conclusion that I'm going to print them out and give them a thorough reading to make much more sense out of them.

Has anyone else read them yet?  What do you think?  I'm going to hold my opinion for a short while to avoid altering initial feedback.

The miniatures are available from the Baccus site though I don't see them at Heritage Studios yet for those of us in the States.  I'm absolutely drooling to get my hands on some of the armor units!

Interesting reading...I don't particularly like the basing requirement...that makes playing other systems with the same minis difficult.  I guess it would be possible to play without basing your stuff, but very difficult to keep track of what you are doing.  I did kinda like the turn sequence and command system.

Look forward to hearing your evaluation of them, SGT C. ...  I've e-mailed and even called Heritage/Steve about New DRM but have not got an answer yet !  I'll send him this thread !  :D

Looked like from the Heritage site, that they are out of town until further notice.

I did some reading the moment they released it. I like the point system and will ignore the basing rules.

Only the miniatures are a bit too angular for my taste.

Some of the miniatures I'm not too keen on, but I DO like the bigger tanks... I like them a lot! :;):  :D   If I do buy them, I'll be putting track on them however, I'm not so keen on the idea of these being floating tanks.

What does everyone think of the Infantry?  They kind of remind me of the sort of thing you see in sci-fi tv/films from the 70's & 80's... I'm still not sure whether that's good or bad!

Yes. I had a hand in helping create them. Some of my ideas went into the first draft although I didn't actually draft the language used.

They're a bit basic althogh that has its strengths as well.

The game plays well... sort of like the DBA, HOTT or ASQL of 6mm sci-fi.

I didn't like that either and while the 60mm base is the "standard," I lobbied extensively to get language in the rules that explicitly states that you can use any base size you'd like so... please use any size base you'd like! LOL :)

I've been using 2"x2" (50mm x 50mm) ASQL bases with my 10mm sci-fi armies for playtesting although I may try something else later.

Actually, the base system has worked pretty well for keeping track of the game... at least, in my experience.

Ib.

Some of my ideas helped that out... please remember that the game is still very much a work in progress.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

how would the rules compare if used for 2mm on 30mm by 30mm bases? or are they quite strict in scale?

They'd work just fine with 2mm.

They aren't strict in scale at all... the mechanics will work with any playing pieces including tiddlywinks.

Minis are simply more aesthetically pleasing and make money for the boss!

I thought the rules felt reminiscent of DBx games. Not necessarily a bad thing.  As they are a work in progress there's some room for improvement, but I think there's a good game in there.

Things I didn't like:

Basing: I think I'm going to have to toss the basing as stated in the rules out the window, though an idea I had was to make the 6cm x 6cm bases out of metal with basically just a sand and flock covering and base the figures on 20mm x 20mm magnetic bases.  That way I could use the smaller bases for other games and then put them on the larger bases for CH.

Terminology in the rules:  as i was reading through it some of the terminology left me confused.  Especially "zipped" and "zapped."  I kept saying "WTF" to myself until quite a ways through the rules where those are explained.  Just say suppressed and destroyed to avoid confusion.  As far as I know those words aren't copyrighted. :)

Measuring:  I personally don't care for measuring things in base widths.  Not that big of a deal but extra work for me to convert to what those measurements actually are.

Base labelling:  Not sure if I like this or not.  Probably what I'll end up doing is a reference sheet with unit stats rather than putting in directly on the model.

Things I like:

Unit scale:  The reason I started looking at 6mm is that I want big games representing at least a couple battalions, this fits the bill and then some.

Turn sequence:  I like that the other player gets to react to the active player's actions.

Point system: It's pretty straightforward, though that gives me some concern about play balance.  It just seems to simple to be true if you get my meaning.  That will come out as people play though.

Infantry: They don't seem to have the handicaps that they do in other games and could represent the importance they actually have on the battlefield.

I think it looks like it will be a good game after some more work.  Can't wait for Heritage to start selling them so I can get my hands on some and take the rules for a spin.  Course I'm *still* waiting for my first batch of 6mm figs.

Oh one other thing, not really a like or dislike, more of a general comment.  I may have missed it, but there needs to be a clarification on measuring.  Specifically whether or not pre-measuring is allowed and more importantly where measurements are made from for movement and fire.

Haven't read the rules yet. One more thing added to the to do list.

I like the walkers! I just need to check the size. They give me an impression of Slannness. I like the shape.

Downloaded the rules but don't know when I will be able to really read them.
