Ah! Completely forgot about that rule! It would make them much more vulnerable, I think this is an option for playtesting :-)

I could finally test this list. And it only took me some months :D
Currently several new players faced up and I didnt want to smash em up with a list I came up with, so I stuck to "traditional" lists, like Marines, Guard etc.

We played 2000 points because time was sparse, Ghazgkull Orks vs Mobile Forces of Catachans
I fielded

SHT Airborne Co
Ogry Co
Airborne Co w/ supreme
Hydras
Deathstrikes
Vultures (1 Punisher, 3x Hellfire)
Tbolts

He had
Warband w/ 2xBoys, 2xGrotz, Warlord
Warbikes
Blitzbrigade (2xGun,1xFlak, Oddboy (ZZap))
Blitzbrigade (2xGun,1xFlak, Oddboy (ZZap))
Stompamob w/ SupaStompa
Fighta Bommas
Fighta Bommas
Fighta Bommas
Landa

A pretty unusual Ork list with not much on the table. He settled for an L-shaped deployment and we settled our forces. I forgot that my Vultures could actually garrison and kept them on the table.
Forces set up, Orks won initiative and one Zzap nearly killed the Albatross with the Supreme inside. The retailiate by attacking and breaking the Brigade, but get killed by a Landa Assault in return. Deathstrikes meanwhile nearly kill the SupaStompa (2 shields, only one missile hit). Overall pretty shooty battle, due to his Fighta Bommas. Game ended in Turn 3 due to his missing ground units, basically.

Won 2-1 (I had Defend the Flag and Hold the line, he had BTS)

Overall Feedback:
The list seems to be okay for now. Of course much more testing is required.
The Albatross seems to be nice and fragile enough (only 5+ RA) and is not that shooty due to his limited range. The lower speed compared to the other VTOLs means, that it must be placed more strategically and cant Blitz rush in the last turn.
I will try out the Vulture Tornados and Punishers in the next game. Also trying to tinker with broken builds as well, gonna file up an army forge file to do that.

I did a mock-up of how I roughly envisioned the Albatross and I think it has to be either Support Craft (i.e. make it bigger) or reduced transport capacity. Thoughts?

Furthermore I found this... thing... online, think Warseer. While it does not look like it could fly, I shamelessly copied the front ramp approach. Nonetheless it looks Space-Marine-ish now.

I fully support the Support Craft approach. It's something unique to Guard lists and the concept already works well in the game.

Nice render!

Gotta say, front assault ramps work for space marines, due to their mobile infantry-esq armour, but for guard it's essential to model the assault ramps backwards. The only time a forward facing ramp is practical is seaborne landing craft and we've all seen saving private Ryan for how well that works!

Coincidentally that's what ruined The Force Awakens for me. Well, the first thing that ruined it... Lol.

The 2nd is shameless reimaging of Kruger's vtol from Elysium which was by far the best thing in that movie visually.

I still like yours the best however, Largo, though ramps to the rear. Yes...very much.

Ok, after the EEC I am finally thinking of getting this thing a bit more off the shelf. To be honest, partially because I was reminded at Euros that I should do some more work on this. I will still work on my Marines, paint wise, but will try and do more test games with them.
If you have done any games, please leave feedback here :)

It has been ages since I actively developed lists ortook part in the development of one. Nowadays I am too busy with real life stuff, which leads to me being more a customer than a creator.

Regarding this list I still want to have a fully working VTOL list, Vietnam-Rambo style. Luckily the french Community did a list and it looks very, very glas cannony but potent. The PDF is available on their site, here is the link for all the ppl who don't know there page:

The intention of my last posting was to create a discussion bout that list and propose a translation of the list. I already started translating the list and formating it in excel, bit I am far from finished. Thoughts?

I'm excited. What you were doing with this idea always made me take notice. Glad to see you are taking a look at the similarly themed Epic FR list.
