So what would you like to see?

Here are some thoughts:

Including all the current super heavies with the exception of the Gorgon (more on that later).

Companies:

Super Heavy Tank Company - 3 of the following: Baneblade, Shadowsword, Stormsword, Stormblade, Stormhammer
Heavy Tank Company - 2 Macharii and a Macharius Command Tank (Vulcan or Vanquisher)
Heavy Artillery Company - 3 Praetors or 3 Domini*

*The Dominus Armored Siege Bombard is a semi-hypothetical Crassus variant. It appears between the Crassus and Praetor in the Index to Imperial Armor Apocalypse 2, thus my assumption it is a Crassus variant. Should it prove otherwise it's inclusion will, of course, have to be reconsidered.

Support:
Salamander Squadron - 3 (possibly 4) Salamander Scout Tanks
Combined Anti Infantry Team - 8 Imperial Guard Infantry and a Stormlord
Super Heavy Tank Platoon - one Baneblade variant, excepting Stormlords
Heavy Anti Air Battery - 2 Macharius Hydra
Tank Platoon - 6 Leman Russ or Leman Russ Demolishers
Leviathan - 1 Leviathan

Upgrades:
Supreme Commander - add a Supreme Commander character
Heavy Flak - 1 Macharius Hydra
Infantry Support Platoon - 6 Imperial Guardsmen and a Crassus
Super Heavy Tank Platoon - one Baneblade variant, excepting Stormlords
Heavy Tank Platoon - one Macharius variant, excepting Hydra
Heavy Artillery Platoon - one Praetor or Domini

Exceptions - There are currently four WE transports for the Guard. These are the Gorgon, Leviathan, Stormlord, and Crassus. They have transport Capacities of 10, 16, 8, and 6 respectively. It is inconvenient to accommodate all these with anything below a company level formation, which would be bad for the list flavor. First out was the Gorgon; it is an iconic Krieg unit, and doesn't mesh with the other capacities. The Leviathan ended up as an empty transport because loading it would make a company sized formation.

I've also not added the forthcoming Macharius Omega since I really don't know what to do with it. Most likely it would end up in a Support formation if added.

Also, I've statted out the Crassus and Praetor. Not sure whether to count single Heavy Bolters or Twin, but the Models are single.

Crassus Armored Assault Transport
Ar4+ CC6+ FF5+ DC2, RA, Transport(6)
4x Heavy Bolters 30cm AP5+

Ar4+ CC6+ FF6+ DC2, RA
2x Heavy Bolters 30cm AP5+
Praetor Missile Launcher 150cm 3BP Indirect
OR 2x 45cm AP6+/AT4+/AA4+

Note I'm making a guess at max range, as I can't make it out in the FW sheet. I've also reduced the range on the Pilum AA missiles from a totally unbalanced 75cm to 45cm.

Now, FW has blurred the stats on two of the missile options for the Preator, but here is what I think they are.

XXX Warhead 12"-XXX" S8, AP3
Ordinance Barrage 3, 5" Blast, Primary Weapon, Twin Linked
XXX Warhead 12"-XXX" S6, AP4
Ordinance Barrage 3, 7" Blast, Primary Weapon, Twin Linked, No Cover Save
Pilum Warhead 72" S8, AP3
Heavy 2, Primary Weapon, Twin Linked, AA mount

Edit: while cruising for verification on the fluff existance of the Mach. Hydra, I stumbled across a Cell phone shot of the rules for the Dominus. It's a triple barreled bombard.

40k rules:
Mobile Fire: 12"-36" S10 AP3 Ordinance Barrage 1, 5" Blast, Primary Weapon
Static Fire: 12"-60" S10 AP3 Apocalyptic Barrage 3, Primary Weapon

Dominus Armored Seige Bombard
Ar4+ CC6+ FF6+ DC2, RA
2x Heavy Bolters 30cm AP5+
Dominus Triple Bombard 30cm BP3 MW, Indirect

There was a pic of the rules for the Mach. Omega too, but it's illegible.

not sure how I missed this thread. Need to get my Eldar playing buddies into SHT vs Guardian heavy lists methinks...

anyone play this yet? (read: let's firm this up as a real list - hint hint :))

At this point there are several reasons that I don't forsee solidifying this into an official list:

1) There really isn't any solid evidence that any Guard force uses all or mostly SHTs. They're rare, hard to replace, and technically sophisticated. This makes their widespread deployment more of an Admech thing.

2) Lack of interest - see date on last post.

3) The AC, Rug, hopes to finalize some of the more promenant Guard forces (Cadians, Catachans, and Elysians IIRC) before moving on to more speculative territory. While my own instinct is to flutter around like a moth in a light, his approach will actually get things done. What we really need is Approved lists, not more Experimental/Developmental.

4) For various reasons my time for Epic has been very limited recently.

Now, there may be room for this to go forward outside the NetEA domain (Fanlist), but I think the Admech Armored list E&C posted a few months ago fits the fluff better. I do like the look of it overall though it is not a pure SHT list. I'm not sure E&C plans to carry it any farther though, so you may be out of luck there too.

Sorry to disappoint - I still like the concept of this force, but as you can see there are several practical concerns that make it unlikely unless there is an unexpected groundswell of support for such a list.

I think fluffwise the concept works better under the ad-mech umbrella.

I also believe E&C was intending for it to be finished, but the main admech list and the defense pdf list to be finished first.

So thoughts:

SG: I can dig what you say about putting some of the in flight lists to bed. I completely agree that focusing on moving the experimental to official status is P1, especially the oft delayed AdMech lists, a topic E&C holds dear. I could see this being picked up as a fan-list though and run with. it shouldnt distract too much for the core work IMO.

MadDoc: Totally agree this is SOOOOO not fluffy. on the other hand I wouldnt expect this to be. this is the type of whacky list, official or fan made, that is just plain FUN. Something I think that we can agree is a hoot to play occasionally.

I think it would be nice to see this get a few hours of work to put it into a state for friendly play thats all (that and i relaly want to proxy up a Crassus! :D)

I am hoping that either this list or E&C's Ad-Mech version sees the light of day.

However I do understand and agree with SG's point on needing more lists than currently to be developed to Approved status, as opposed to having a myriad of lists that are little more than Fan lists.

Just curious - are there refs, then, to Ad Mech fielding super heavies in numbers? I never came across this (I have to admit I have read very little 40K fiction in the past few years), and would see them more as Titan & Skitarii types with a smattering of Ordinatii and a side of Knights - and Robots ;)

A very elite IG fire-fighting super heavy tank division technically well-supported by Ad Mech seems more feasible to me.

well, there's certainly large mixed mechanicus and IG forces fielding huge numbers of Macharius tanks (a smaller superhaevy).

My logic would be that since superheavy tanks are meant to be relatively scarce in the IG, you'd have to have a situation like a major manufacturing place for them (forgeworld) coming under attack to get sufficient concentration of them to justify the list.

It's not fool proof logic though, and frnakly the list would look very similar, no matter what the name of the infantry units are.
