More "minor" armies... this time Imperial Guard... the vicious warriors from Catachan... or any other Deathworld you prefer.

Some changes: used the Deathworld Veterans and Mortar Team stats from Dave's Armageddon Ork Hunters, changed some formation sizes, give the Catachan Devils sniper rifles, and added a "Support Tank" platoon aftern discovering that the Catachans actually have Armoured Regiments!

So, take a look and let me know what you think!

Are the Marauders supposed to be 300, despite the generally applied change to 250?

I like the idea of Demolition Charges, but wonder how to remember which units have used theirs. An idea I am toying with myself in a guerrilla warfare army list is to up the CC to 5+ and instead confer the MW to the regular CC, like Multi-meltas and FF, possibly:

Demolition Charges     Base Contact    Assault Weapon    Macro-weapon

What is your experience from these kinds of units?

I also like the increase in Sentinel CC compared to the old stats. If I model chainsaws to my Sentinels I would like them to do something.

It looks like a nicely done list so far, I've printed it out and will have a right good look through it, I could only glance through while I am at work... even on a go slow day. :))

Very nice list, Chroma!

Makes one want to buy some DRM jungle soldiers and try a Catachan army.

Well then, get too it!

Note - I am not affiliated with DRM... but I do like their models.   :agree:

Just some very brief comments regarding wording. Just me being anally retentive, I'm afraid.

Units
DEATHWORLD VETERANS. Maybe re-name as DEATHWORLD VETERAN ASSAULT TEAM since Catachan Devils are also veterans. One Shot ability on Demolition Charges - isn't the name of this ability Single Shot? Glad you've got them as Assault Weapons, by the way, the're far too short ranged to even be classed as Small Arms.

I would add IMPERIAL GUARD before the names of the MORTAR TEAM and SENTINEL (CATACHAN PATTERN) units, just for consistency with those units listed in the Armageddon rulebook.

As you have the Firepower and additional Small Arms ability of the DEATHWORLD VETERANS' Heavy Flamer differ from that of the SENTINEL's, should the former be Heavy Flamers or, less preferable, Multiple Heavy Flamers?

Indirect ability on the MORTAR TEAM's Mortars - isn't the name of the ability Indirect Fire?

CATACHAN DEVILS, interesting addition of Sniper Rifles to the unit, looking forward to testing as I'd previously suggested a formation of IMPERIAL GUARD SNIPERS units. The Catachan Knives weapon, should this be Devils' Claws? I suppose it wouldn't be obvious they were knives then and people would think they were daemonic or something. Probably best as you already have it.

Couple of things.

Catachan Devils have incredible high stats for non marine humans, do they really need CC4+?

Sentinel has an AP5+ heavy flamer, whereas the standard for this weapon is AP4+, even on the deathworld veterans. Stat or name change required.

Demo charges - one shot weapons on infantry is a bitch to keep track of. The Elysian list factored these into the basic CC stat of the unit instead.

Ignore Cover FF - There are no rules for how this works, particularly with regard to hit allocation order when mixed with normal FF. This needs a note to explain how it's to be used. Several other lists have this same problem.

demo charges are easy - a removable model.

Quote:

SPECIAL RULE – Air Cavalry
Infantry units in any Deathworld Veterans formation with assigned Valkyrie
transports may use their transport slots as normal
.
I'm a little confused by this. Can someone explain what I'm missing here? Why is it necessary to state this?

Because the rulebook Valkyrie can only transport Stormtroopers.

Ahhh, it all becomes clear. Cheers BL! :yay:

Typo: In the "Oops! Sorry Sir" rule - Commissars assigned to a Deatworld Veterans

Suggestion:
Change
SPECIAL RULE – Air Cavalry
Infantry units in any Deathworld Veterans formation with assigned Valkyrie
transports may use their transport slots as normal.

to:

SPECIAL RULE – Air Cavalry
Infantry units in any Deathworld Veterans formation with assigned Valkyrie
transports may use their transport slots as if they were Storm Troopers.
??

Questions:

In realistic terms, how do booby traps get deployed in an engagement? I would have thought they were more defensive measures. Or is this an abstraction on ambushing?

Are the Thunderbolt sqdns 3 planes because there's no ground flak available?

Could demo charges just be a standard weapon rather than single shot? Perhaps a squad could feasibly carry more (or they get resupplied through their lines etc)than one charge and you could replace the single shot with a more abstract version that doesn't have to be kept track of, like Zombo mentions? I'm not sure about others but I dislike having to destroy your own units (removable model)as a design feature.
