If you have the hobby patience and are willing to use the magnets, Dave's method offers the most variety, with minimal investment. And it save you from needing to create a bunch of different extra stand you won't need half the time.

I support the Dave method; I like being able to swap around where my supreme commander is from game to game - particularly for marines and chaos marines where the lists afford you that flexibility.

Hi all, i am new to the SMs and to E:A as such, and am just in the starting phase of building a ton of Forumware marines... so i have limited options to expand in future... so i wanna get it right the first time... i currently plan on 2 formations each of Termis / Assault /scout / Tactical / Devastator and want to inklude some charakters for them, but it seems the default answer is : chaplain all the way right? because i only have limited amounts of them and very nice minis of the other dues i really would like to use... so how to handle this dilemma?

For my Space Wolves I only had one wolf priest model so for the 2nd formation of Grey Hunters I had to use a Captain model - but really I will tell my opponent they both have Wolf Priests in them.

I think so long as a stand is distinct in some way and you make your opponent aware nowadays folks are happy to accept that one character can be another.

You could probably get away with counting one character as another. You show your army list to your opponent at the start of the game and mention what is what. Counting Rhinos as Land Speeders would be a no but a character is probably acceptable. See http://epic-uk.co.uk/wp/event-calendar/ for tournaments by the way, though that's only applicable if you're in the UK and there won't be one for a while yet with the virus.

Most players will take a Supreme and Chaplains and some use Librarians but Captains are poor and rarely taken. Given each marine company normally has a single Captain and Chaplain I plan to model both on a stand with a command stand and count the stand as a Chaplain in game. You can then still field and model the captain without the subpar game option.
