Just a small set of changes to fall in line with those to the Codex list which have some community support (plus a unit add for a fellow playtester):

  • Raven Guard Aircraft moved to the 1/3 section
  • Sniper is now +10 per unit
  • Storm Talon added

Normally I'd wait until the approval vote to make these changes but they only invalidate one of my reports. I should be able to replace it before another 1-2 groups can post 6 reports so I can put this up for approval.

Hey Dave,

I thought I should contribute with some battle reports for the Ravenguard since you are still missing a few. Here is the first one:

Weird game, and not the best play test but I wrote it down anyway.

Thanks Argol, definitely looked like some rough dice for the RG.

Here is another play test, this time against Black Legion.

http://www.tacticalwargames.net/taccmd/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=33261

The BL list had two experimental changes: EUK stats on the Hellblades, and Cult Marines mixed in to one of the retinues (instead of add-on). The BL SC was in a fearless cult marine unit, which was the only reason he survived the game. Other than that those changes did not affect the outcome of the game.

Hope you can still use the battle report!

Game three with the Ravenguard:

As always when playing ground based marines, the Warhounds were very useful. Also beefed up Scouts and Sternguard Veterans with their infiltrate ability are a great fit for how I like to play. Fun list to play overall!

Finally got around to do game four. A battle report is posted here:

Hopefully, with the help of Mrdiealot, we will do the final two shortly.

Thanks, any thoughts on playability/enjoyability after these 5 games?

It plays differently from other SM Chapters which is great. I like the small formations and the Land Speeder upgrades, it fits the theme and how I like to play Marines. You have to play smart, set up clipping assault, crossfires, etc.

My main objection (which I can probably get over) is the nerfed Scouts. Ravenguard should be Scout themed, and taking away the Scout Rhinos without a points reduction is to me a VERY big nerf. The LS Storm option is cool, useful but expensive which kind of changes how the formation can be used. I tend to go with Land Speeders instead of Scouts which is a shame. I think giving the Scouts their Rhinos back would be a good thing. This gives the RG a cheap and very useful formation to boost the activation count. A high activation count is sorely needed when playing with only small, fragile formations.

Also, I'm not sure how to build a list that is flexible enough to handle a tournament. There is a serious lack of AT shooting. Maybe the alpha-strike drop pod list is the way to go, but those kind of drops usually doesn't work out for me (I'm not very good with drops) and there are many armies out there that would massacre your podded infantry once they are on the ground. My first games was against Knights and I found them very hard to handle. Air assaults took too much damage and the Vangaurd formations ended up being down to one or two marines even after a successful engage.

Overall a list I enjoy playing, but I don't think it's going to be a top tier list in tournaments. Fixing the Scouts might help making the list more competitive...

Norto and I talked about reducting the LS Storm cost, I was planning on putting that foward when the approval vote happens. I'll ask the other playtesters on the Scout Rhinos and see what they say. Or if they're reading this just chime in.

No objections locally or from Kyuss. I'll add the Rhinos to the Scouts and reduce the Storms to 3 for 75 when I put it up for approval.

6:th and final game from Stockholm, Sweden done:
viewtopic.php?f=84&t=33822

3 formations Sternguards with ambush trying to get their friends past a line of garrisoned Barans. Fun game and the ambush has potential, but 300 points for 4 marines is expensive. IMHO definitely not overpowered.
