This is starting to look more controlled and focused over your quick initial iterations.

That would be to take the restrictions too far in another direction, and Dark Angels isn't always in every battle hunting the Fallen after all.

In which situations players can just field them as codex maybe? When people wanna run DA like regular marine but dark green, codex is fine and they can paint their terminators white. The value of your list will be where it steps away from that.

Sure deathwing is iconic, but it's also viable as a codex list (taking just terminators or terminators+thawks does work in codex, you'll just annoy your opponents after the novelty wears off). And Marines in dark green armour, that's just codex.

Fully agree with you that a specific DA list will never please everybody. They have so much fluff and different ways of operating (great terminators, and great fast attack, and great tanks) that any list that satisfies all areas for the fluff-fans, breaks the way most EA lists are made (becomes kitchen skink, marines but +extra toys that are extra good). I think focusing on theme and accepting that for more generic builds there's nothing wrong with running DA and codex (when the DA in question are operating in a codex-like manner) is the only way to avoid that.

Unrelated to all this theme stuff, but those are very cheap wirlwinds?

Good points, lets see what you like v1.5, which kills off some holy cows, and reintroduces some stuff I've previously discarded.

Those are indeed that specific kind of Whirlwinds. At 250, they're potentially costed in a way where they may actually be worth taking ;)

Same with the Predator Destructors.

Looking good! 2 questions though:

The wording on the core detachment structure, is that right? It says that 1 core detachment allows you to buy 1 line, deathwing, ravenwing OR Ironwing detachment. Isn't that very restrictive? Shouldn't it open 1 of each? Or else theresgonna be minimum 2-3 tacticals in each army.

And does the Death Wing Knights all have inspiring? As in +4 on assault result from 4xInspiring if the unit is intact?

Oops, no that's a mistake on my part, you'll be able to play without any tacticals at all, I just apparently forgot to delete that line from v1.4. The intention for the structure is that Deathwing Core gives access to Deathwing Inner Circle, Ravenwing Core to Ravenwing Scouts etc.

Good catch! Was aiming for 1 Inspiring for the entire formation, don't know what I was thinking. I'll just give them an Interrogator Chaplain as standard instead.

The Grand Master-thing gives me flashbacks to 5 ed Realm of Chaos to WFB, where the army book was divided into three lists (Warriors/Beastmen/Daemons) and one was your main army, the other two allies. Something to get inpsiration from? For example, you can play a "Deathwing army" with lots of terminators/related stuff and then have just a small amount of Rawenwing, Ironwing and/or green armour-marines in your army :)

Hordes of Chaos happens to be my favourite army book of all time, so there might be some of that in here already. If you want the real deal tho, check out my Traitor Titan list (it's in the signature).

You need to fix the Nephilims, their stats are insane. None of their weapons have fixed arcs so they shoot defensive AA 30 cm all around, 2 shots each.

I also think it's better design if you limit the range of at least one of their weapons to 15cm. That way you would sometimes have to choose between full firepower and avoiding ground flak...

Well spotted Argol, that's entirely an oversight on my part.

I've pretty much copied the stats for the Nephilim from E-UK (apart from the weapon arcs, which I forgot). I'll have a look at the weapon stats for the DA ACs.

having taken 2x units of nephilims in my UK Dark Angels list in every outing, I can say they are definitely worth the points, IIRC EUK are considering a 25pt increase for them

I'm not a fan of dropping one of their AA shots to 15cm, these guys are much more air superiority fighters than tbolts or storm talons and should perform as such, maybe with a corresponding reduction in ground-attacking ability....

I'm looking at making them a bit more similar to the Hell Blades perhaps.

The weapon stats I'm looking at with the Nephilim: [Avenger Mega Bolter: 30cm, 2 x AP4+/AT5+/AA6+] [Hurricane Bolters: 15cm, AP5+/AA5+]

Alternatively the Avenger Mega Bolter could be [2 x AP4+/AT6+/AA5+]

And the Dark Talon: [Rift Cannon: 15cm, MW4+] [Hurricane Bolters: 15cm, AP5+/AA5+] [Stasis Bomb: 15cm, 1BP IC]

But I'm open for alternative suggestions, or just tweaking the original stats a bit.
