yeah nail polish remover is quick and effective and all you have to do is stink out your entire house when you use it....

Isn't nail polish remover usually watered-down or otherwise mixed with other things. It's quite an expensive way to buy acetone, too. Just go to the chemist and ask for a bottle of acetone, but be prepared to be interrogated as to exactly what you need it for (not only is it toxic, but it's also a key ingredient in a highly unstable explosive).

I just get the cheapest nail polish remover I can find... usually less than a quid

fairy power spray is the expensive stuff, £3 for about 350ml

Alas no, only plastic bikes. They're going in for another bath - I have a lot of old Ultramarines in that blue so I'll have to find a good way to exterminate them all without an ordinatus solution.

Oh, and I get my nail polish remover with a strawberry scent. It's never done me any rhubarb.

Nail polish remover/acetone will murder plastics.

I still recommend denaturated alcohol. 92% pure is what I use.

I have been told that for really stubborn paint, try acetone-free nail polish remover....

but DO NOT SOAK THE MODEL!! a few seconds in and out, followed by a quick scrub should be enough

I found out that even without acetone the stuff EATS models if you leave them in for more than a few minutes

*DISCLAIMER*

I make no promises of either acceptable paint removal or model safety... just passing on what I've been told....

yeah I've used a sonic cleaner on FW resin and it worked quite well (it also vibrated all the component bits apart which was a convenient, if unexpected, bonus)

Acetone for metal is a winner. It costs 8£ or so 500ml ( well in Finland) and you get it from stores that sell house paints, hardware stores. Break fluid for plastics is awesome. Those are what I use and ofc brush the minis after the bath. Break fluid is cheap. Both are toxic so handle them carefully.

I'll take a look for the sonic vibrator thing, thanks! Any thoughts on makes/models that come recommended, or are they all much of a muchness?

been reading up on stuff called Dettol. it's a antiseptic. I have been using Simple Green with good results but it isn't quick and doesn't work on some paints.
I will update later with the results.

I think earlier in this thread I posted a video on how dettol worked for me. It was great. It had to be left overnight, but it is the best I've been able to buy here since I have never found simple green in a shop anywhere.
