Detol blew me away! I really hadn't expected much, having previously used a strong floor cleaner (to not much affect) antiseptic for wounds didn't seem likely. But some local guys seconded the tip so I gave it a go... The paint just melted off !

24 hours in a pot and the reds/yellows/ greens just shed off like snake skin. Blacks and greys more like sludge but no problem with a light scrub. Secret is never mix with soap or detergent - makes it go gooey - just swish your toothbrush in clean detol.

No damage to plastic even after 4/5 days. (Haven't tried resin.)

Was it ok on Plastics? notice any brittleness in the stuff after?

Simple Green is available in Canada in places like Canadian Tire and Walmart....Great stuff with lots of uses, I use it in my pressure washer to clean the siding and gutters and they come out looking very clean
Also just used it to stripe some icky glue like substance left by the 50+year old vinyl floors I ripped upin the living Room....sprayed it all over, let it sit and then scraped it up.

Haven't noticed any brittleness. A friend has just used the same on about 100 marine infantry I gave him (which I painted in my youth and were lagged in paint) and they came out like new - not a single breakage as far as I know.

I looked and Simple Green doesn't seem to be available in the UK afaik. But I'm not to worried now. You just have to be prepared to smell like a doctors surgery for a week or so :-D

You can get simple green in the UK from their website. I used it before I found the magic of Fairy power spray, but now that has changed I'll go back to it or try Detol. I'm guessing this is the brown antiseptic version of Detol?

Yep, exactly like that.

I have had minis in it for over a week to test it out, and it hasn't affected them.

Sometimes after getting a load of stuff off you need to change the dettol and use some more. Using a toothbrush gives up a layer of suds but works well.

Fairy power spray has changed? It no longer works?

So I understand it - which is a bummer if it's true. Bought a bottle a couple of weeks back, should know before the weekend's out...

JZ. That is a slightly different colour than the one I used in my video. The stuff I used was brownish and a bit murky, while what you're showing is clearer and more orangey.

However I have just bought the Clearer Orangey stuff, as checking the ingredients it appears to be exactly the same. So you should be ok. The thing is I won't be opening it until I finish with my other stuff, so I won't be able to let you know for a while.

Fairy power spray still works for me! Looks like they have changed the formula slightly and it's now more orange but still worked fine. It may be slightly less potent than it was, might need a little more work with a tooth pick, but it was an infinity mini I was using it on so its hard to tell. Still worth it for the lack of smell and mess in my book.

gonna plonk a word more in for the good old dentaurated alcohol.
Strips paint off metal and plastics in under an hour, with scrubbing, sometimes significantly less. Don't leave resins in too long.

so had a chance to use the Detol, great stuff....but heed others warnings...mixing with other products, anything soap like is bad mojo....guess there was some simple green residue left and it turned the paint into this nasty gooey mess....my cleaning tooth brush got bunged right up, and now there is some sticky residue on some of the models
Going to have to Re-detol it again to get the final goo gone

Good to know. I'll probably nab a small bottle and try it out asap and report back. We're in super high humidity atm so I'm in no rush ask cannot spray anything right now anyways

Just another post about fairy power spray.... sadly it is different, thinner and less greasy, if anything it seems watered down

Soaked a bunch of metal and plastic minis for a week and got some paint off but it was hard going and the mark2b metal land raider just looks like it's been inkwashed now.... back to the mess and faff of dettol for me..... although I do have half a bottle of brake fluid in the car... could be time to give that a whirl.....
