I use a tea strainer and some coffee filter paper to remove any bits from the brake fluid after it has been used a few times and I have been reusing the same glass jar of the stuff for two years now. It does get tinted by red and black colours, but that has no impact on its efficacy that I can see. I've also left Epic plastics in the stuff for over a year with no adverse effects.

Just a quick update to say that I tried my old favourate (fairy power spray) on some resin last night.

I used some pieces from a couple of different forum users who "dabble" with resin and submerged them for ~18 hrs. To remove paint I'd only leave in for 2-4 hrs so I did push the test a bit.

After this time though I could see no loss of detail and no softening of the resin. It seems to be a complete success. However I dont't know much about resin so cannot say if this would be comparable with what FW uses, perhapps some "dabblers" could comment?

Additionaly the models had no paint on so the resin was exposed directly to the chemical.

Interesting experience with simple green: dissolved the flesh tone on a bunch of Catachan 28s, but left the green uniform paint intact.

little or no impact on Gesso.

Ok, there are many different simple green products - which one should I use?

And where can I get it in the UK (as I fancy using something other than brake fluid on my plastics and resins).

If you are open to an alternative, Fairy power spray is easy to get in the UK and strips plastic/resin.

Extra large for us poor sods in the UK :) I've managed to strip down several plastic models including a load of cheaply ebayed warlord titans with this stuff.

I have tried simple green and not had as much luck with it as brake fluid on some paints, it really seems to be a crap shoot for me (not sure if the base spray being 15+ years old has much to do with it though.

It doesn't surprise me given the way simple green served as a selective stripper for me.

Alcohol and simple green seem to cover a fairly broad spectrum\

Something I tried recently was nail varnish remover (the acetone stuff). Got a bottle of cheap stuff at 75p from Tescos, soaked a couple of ebayed warhounds in it for 24 hours, scrubbed with a stiff brush (smoker's toothbrush from Wilkinsons at about 20p), a little detail scraping with a cocktail stick, and I've got two clean warhounds and most of the bottle of remover still to use.

Just don't try that with plastic PitFiend! This is where the multi-purpose of simple green shines through.

I'm still greatly disappointed that this thread isn't about real strippers.
