| Post subject: | Tips for Magnetizing? |
So, I've finally got together all the gear for magnetizing some of my mini's. I feel my first step is to make sure I get all magnets in the right polarity, so I don't later discover a certain weapon won't stick. So my thinking was I mark all the magnets on one side with some paint or ... some kind of marker, would this get in the way of the magnets working at all? Any other tips and wisdom I should take on board before I start? |

I use a black permanent marker to mark magnets and never had issues. I've never used paint, but if it's thick enough, it might interfere. |

You could use a magnet on one side of the connection and a piece of steel on the other side of the connection. Amazing Magnets sells steel slugs for that purpose. As for paint interfering with rare earth magnets - it depends on how big the magnets are. You can do a test by putting a piece of cardboard between two of the magnets and see how well they stay together. |

i've not had a problem with paint and magnets, or at at least: undercoat -> paint -> marker -> spray varnish finish has worked well with my minis. Textured paint however, caused problems. |

I magnetized my weapons and put a small bit of steel on the hard points of my Titans. Works like a charm and I don't have to worry about polarity. |

My advice: designate one magnetized weapon as your “control” for setting all of your mounting spots’ polarity. This has worked so far for my Predator turrets and Titan arm weapons, and will ensure you retain interchangeability. Also, don’t install magnets when tired
