I'll see if anyone has Administratum Grey at the store tonight that I can try out. That's the next grey in the GW progression. Gray's always seem to dry so quick on me though, they can be a real pain.

I'm not sure how bright that is, if it were me I'd probably add a touch of a grey-blue to pure white and edge the black with that, I find that the flat grey tends to make it look a bit dull and takes the deepness out of the black, you could do it with a drybrush, just wipe it off until you'd normally use it, then wipe it a bit more, work towards the vertexes and go a bit heavier there..... that's what I'd do, but as always, DWWFY, not me :spin ;D :tut

Thanks guys, got some experiments to run then. I'll try Fenrisian Grey in addition to the Dawnstone and Administrative on some panels to see how it stacks up.

Thanks guys.

OK, take two on the highlights. I went back and re-edged the black with Eshin Grey followed by Fenrisian Grey, and widened the orange highlight of Firedragon Bright while completely edging with Lugganath Orange. Worse? Better? About the same? I think I'm going to try one more level of extreme highlight on each, just to see how it looks.

The other two Scorpions got their undersides finished up and are now glued to their bases (1/8" eyelets are great for this if anyone is curious). I also did the first highlight of the black on them. I'm going to be keeping the turrets separate from now on as it makes painting things a lot easier.

looking good, it may not be your style but I'd still go more extreme on the highlights, pastel blue on the black panels and pastel yellow on the orange, I don't think you can be too bright with eldar :)

I definitely fight myself with going light on the highlights, I'm at odds with "less is more".

Agree with Kyuss on this one. You're getting some rich colors out of it already, and some contrasting edges will really draw the eye to the panel separation. Cockpit work looks great too!

if I was being critical (and I hope you take this as constructive which it is meant to be 100%) I find you definitely tend to err on the cautious side with your painting, it's so neat and accurate that I think you could pull off truly spectacular looking individual models if you pushed the highlighting to extremes, not saying your models and armies don't look great, they absolutely do, and that is your style

I think if you embraced going a little OTT with the highlighting and brightness your stuff would look even better

but if you're happy and comfortable with how they look now, that's great, they look wonderful and will look spectacular en-masse

I hope that doesn't upset you, it's just a suggestion and my personal opinion :)

No offense taken, I asked for the opinions. It's delivered in a completely opposite manner here (politely) than it is at any of the local game days ("who painted this? an untrained chimp with a nervous twitch?"). Both approaches have their merits.

I'll try Blue Horror on the black next and some sort of bright yellow/orange/white on the orange.
