Well they're good for their time and all but honestly they don't hold a candle to VGM Elites and Tainted figures available now from the KS. This was more about finalizing a long overdue project.

In other news finally able to get the termies and scouts and tacts dealt with so yay back to doing real hobby stuff

These look really good. Nicely proportioned and I imagine easy to paint.

Are you saying these are older sculpts? They still look very nicely posed to me!

VGM are better technically (print and mini detail, there's a softness to the CAD-marines ive seen) but that lot are better posed and proportioned. Depends what sort of modelling and painting style you go for. Great to see you reached some 'closure' :D

Well in order to create them the original prints did end up dying in the end. [pours 40 out for his little homies]

You do have a point that the poses are grand. Harry Kale was a master of using Poser with the designs.

I painted a thing. It's not much of a thing but I did it and more importantly, after being on a 4 month hobby rut that I just had no desire nor mojo to do anything during. And I feel that is a win.

So had a set of those little cute not-power loaders from the Solar Empire Marines line that I had always intended to hack up and use as a part of the ruined Ad Mech factory on page 2 for additional theme. A bit of hacking it from the plinth base, bending the components to give it a nice 'I've Fallen and I can't get up' flair, and I think it's a fun addition to some very old painting project.

(and I actually did a thing)

I disagree completely that the Vanguard Elites are better than those sculpts. In fact I think those sculpts are amazing.

Like the not alien Loaders! :)

I also agree that those marines are much nicer, I would be very happy to buy models like that over the VGM ones.

Those are absolutely wonderful! The lack of any space marine proxies that I like is what's holding me back from diving into Epic. That, and I'm worried that right after I throw a bunch of money into Epic, FW will start producing HH infantry to go along with Adeptus Titanticus.

Anyway, thanks for sharing those pics.

Very cool Jimmy, glad your 4 month non painting stint has come to an end lol, they look like they should be fighting large carbon boned, tall blue elfs on another planet lol

The exact origins of the Minotaur, like so many vehicles, is not entirely known. Some scholars believe it to predate even the Great Crusade. From those few records extant, it was believed to be used by the thousands by the IV Legion, a favorite weapon of their siege-masters. Many of whom would direct the fire patterns from the field directly relaying orders to their serf crews while real-time analyzing their barrages. By modern era, the Minotaur has become a rare vehicle, largely supplanted by the Basilisk in Imperial service.

While sharing the chassis and engine of the Malcador, the Minotaur has many unusual features not found in other Imperial artillery vehicles. The most notable of these is its deck layout, with engines, drive systems and ammunition evenly distributed across the superstructure, the crew compartment placed in the front of the vehicle and the twin primary weapons placed on a central axis point facing rearwards. The Minotaur is therefore able to "reverse" into prepared firing positions and then rapidly move "forward" through ground it has already cleared, while the centerline mounting not only allows it to carry its massive payload but also provide inherent recoil stabilization when firing.

Painter's notes
These really are some of the most fun models I've painted this year. There's something just so satisfyingly odd about the Minotaur tank. Having the fighting deck exposed on the vehicle requires additional concern since you really need to put a crew member in there. As I consider a marine too valuable to waste schlepping shells around I leveraged the Vanguard tainted army specialists and placed one in every deck. Because I also still want this to be a recognizable Iron Warriors force however I made sure to stick a siege master and his human slave lacky onto the base. He's out there directing the shit while the schlubs have to do the work.

Difficulty is in needing to visually distinguish the coloring of the human bullet magnets from the IW proper as well as potentially allowing the army to be fielded as vraks and Bloody Hand lists lead me to use a quadi blood pact theme. VMA NATO brown uniforms with GW Scab red armor gave a nice look to it I felt. Basing needed to use a stronger bolder set of color variation due to the physical size of the tank so liberal application of VGC heavy grey slurries were banded across each bit of ground. Another concern was then having the rocks actually stand out on the bases to give a nice rough ground effect so a really stark astornomicon grey over charcoal was used for them.
