Just realized I never put up a finished shot. I had thrown on a bunch of black soot in the windows and weathered the ground floor edges. In typical fashion, I'll periodically add more garbage as I feel like it (read : happen to be at the hobby store and see fun plasticard bits/junk yard/randomly break something at the house) but she's going on the shelf.

Nice! I think more rubble will improve it too.

yeah I'm with you on that. I think I'm just kinda burned out on thus piece at the moment. It certainly wouldn't hurt to add more of that certain"something" it is lacking. I was thinking of the following today:

-mixture of sandy paste, kitty litter, and some chopped up sprue slapped onto the edges where the walls meet the ground\floor
-fabricate a second tier that is partially collapsed
-air ducts. Lots of them. Should be easy to fab from evergreen square tubing and some .5 plastic strips
-perhaps get some etched brass model railroad stairs and platforms and mangle them and throw around the place?

thoughts and opinions guys? (thinking the 2 weeks I am going to gone will help with some of the modelers block I am feeling)

I vote for all of the above :-). It looks very nice now - lots nicer than my puny buildings. A bit too nice, maybe. Rubble is good and probably what is needed to make it pop. Especially where the walls meet the ground. Though after trying it, I never quite understood the marvels of kitty litter, which I find a bit hard to glue permanently in place in any volume. Maybe I used the wrong kind, though. The other suggestions are very good too but maybe not as much bang per buck.

I'm Not Dead Yet!!! Really!

Been completely not motivated since coming back from a family trip to all the fun with SG getting thrown under the bus. Perhaps this is what depression is like?

Anyways at least picked up a brush today to start aging the tanks. I need to finish the white on the landing pad and then mount her to a base before weathering and washing for depth.

Sat down for a hour yesterday and knocked out this. Not really sure what it is from; It came in a random ebay lot forever ago. I figure I'll use it as an Imperial Shrine Objective Marker.

I was somewhat inspired by the Blue Mosque in Iran and by the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul when painting her up. Light stone with marble pillars and lapis lazuli dome.

Not sure about the base. It came glued on that way (slab of balsa). I'd personally would have used some plasticard sidewalk but as it's already mounted I really don't want to go through the effort of cutting a hole from the middle. Anyone have other manufacturers than Evergreen for textured polystyrene sheets? I figure I can build up some various walkways if I have enough patterns with which to work from.

Another Question: Now that I look at it I should have painted the doors differently. White marble or gold?

Deneb stone base. Army Painter Strong tone ink wash (the droppers with the red caps, not the can mind you) glaze. Dry brush with Deneb again. I repeated that a couple of times with progressively thinned glazes and lighter brushes to give it a soft look. Took Declan mud and washes the pillars. Thin application of of bone white leaving an edge of the wash exposed. Then added some pure white on the facing edges of the pillars. The gold was black based. A layer of scortched brown was applied to the upper layers. Really light brushed on gold for a dirty burnished look.

Love the results. You could paint all my stone work, if you would like to. :)

I love those weird ebay lots. I have some odd bits I want to, but do not know how to use.
