Things that piss you off:
1. People driving straight with their turn blinkers on
2. People that don't understand when to use they're, their, there
3. Returning models to your display cabinet after adding a new shelf for additional space and crushing an OOP BFG cruiser into the now closed glass door (seriously, WTF me?)

Anyhoos...Since I've gotten multiple PMs regarding the metal effects on the brass piping on the chemical / fuel tanks a wee bit back I'll post the same 411 here for everyone.

So if one wants to make a "mottled metal surface" or some type of stained/etched look (or just to give it a non-uniform look) the trick is to actually not use metallic paints. No seriously here. What you do is actually use a a regular base color for the metal area. Light grey for silver, darker grey for steel, tan and dark sand for copper or brass, etc. Then simply go back and apply thinned out dabs of the metallic paint randomly to the area. This tricks your eye into seeing it as discolored and mottled metal, not "paint 1 over paint color 2". It really couldn't be more easy to do. All you need to do it match the underlying color to the appropriate tone for the metal and your brain does the rest when looking at it. Hope this is of benefit.

The grey plastic ones are two of the starport tiles from GW's Planetary Empires system. They never designed a "blank" tile for scratch building custom tiles from (almost like they don't want to make money or something). I've solved that :)

The idea is that I'll actually model out some of the locations in the painting fluff in the thread.

As the Imperial Navy pushed further into the uncharted Mutara Deeps, strange new classes of vessels were increasingly encountered by the Loyalists. Hunter packs consisting of light escort displacement ships would lurk in the thick nebula and stellar nurseries of the region waiting for damaged Imperial capital ships or isolated convoys to attack. By Crusade date +487, Imperial command would be forced to deal with this danger with incursions in force...

Painters notes:
Nothing actually new (like most of the BFG you'll see around here) but items that needed some restoration touch-ups and of course, going back and giving the bases on all these chaos escorts the treatment. Infidels got a yellow and green thing while the Idolators a fun bright purple and electric blue deal.

Thanks! :D [blushes]

It's all about those Warcolours transparents and airbrushe paints, baby. Categorically the very best paints I've ever used. I just wish the what? 10 year? old model paintjobs were up to snuff.

Go on and tell us more. Links, pictures and a powerpoint presentation all welcome.

Also, I think those paint jobs are perfectly passable. You've not seen any of my crap, after all.

Of all the variants of the Leman Russ, the Punisher class may be the most idiosyncratic. Trading the standard Battle Cannon with the ferocious turret-mounted Punisher Gatling Cannon as its main weapon, it achieves a rate of fire unmatched by all but a few other vehicles. The over-strength 551st Infantry Support detachment, the crews having reputations for very aggressive tactics and being extremely trigger happy (or as Major Strumglok of the 999th reportedly called them, "enthusiastic"), were one of the few armour units called upon to support the Penal Legion advances into the chem-fields.

As a general tactic, it was typical for Punisher crews to strip out all non-essential items in order to cram in as much ammunition as possible before setting off for battle. In order to provide some form of heavier firepower, it was standard procedure to equip roughly half the force with the Mk XII "Comet" Plasma cannon sponsons used to deal with any heavier enemy elements encountered.

Painters notes:
Leman Russ Punishers because...reasons. Lots of fun playing with the wrecked buildings and roads and made sure that each of these have some little extra details that you'd only see close up (for instance a tank busting through a wall, showing the sidewalk with shattered brick or teh very fine street lines for the bike path). Also finally discovered where my pigment powders went to so at least some of these needed to have some road action (pro-top: asphalt roads are not actually black). I can't wait to get to the Abhuman cannon fodder that go with these >:D
