So, after looking for some suitable steel legion models, I decided to try a couple of blue werewolf canadians out in a rough steel legion scheme and I'm quite happy with the results....

coat was painted in Iyanden Darksun, trousers graveyard earth, helmet was painted in charadon granite and highlighted with codex grey, the whole thing was then washed with 'sin-coverer extraordinaire' devlan mud

I've not painted any miniatures in a few months and I've never painted 6mm infantry before at all, please bear this in mind.... C&C welcome!

ok, first stand complete, will post some pics later

question for people who paint on the sprue.... how do you avoid taking paint off models when you remove them from the sprue? to get them to stand flat, ideally the bases need filing on the bottom where the sprue attaches, but I can't file them easily while holding the model without removing paint.... I'm sure I'll figure it out, but if there are any secrets let me know

also, what kind of basing should I go for? I've got a few sprues worth of the e40k ruins that came with the bases, some will go on my titans and SHTs, should I put it on with most of the infantry? also, I want to go desert-ish with the base details but don't want to make them look like Tallarn troops, any suggestions there?

I glue the model on the base before i paint them. So no hassel removing ther painted model from the sprue.

Hi,

I normally remove figures from the sprue and then bluetack them individually to a long piece of card before painting. Allows you to space them out a bit and get the brush in at the hard to reach parts (Heinekin would be proud).

Cheers,

Phil

I often go for half way house. Spray undercoat and drybrush first basecoat whilst still on sprue (as that is messiest stage). Then cut them off sprue and glue to bases. That way if necessary I can touch up the basecoat easily before starting to add highlights.

Cheers

I use PVA glue to stick them to a wooden stick (err, flat one, probably has a proper name I can't remember now, most often found in ice cream). Too much glue will cover up the model a bit, but with the proper amount it works perfectly.

I don't pant on the sprue but if you get the flat underside of both sides in contact with the underside of the base of a model then GW clippers are pretty good at being able to clip away the sprue and leaving it flat, so needing little or hopefully no filing.

Lollie pop stick, cut minatures off sprue, and stick down with blue tack them spray white base coat, blue tack is the way ahead as it holds tightly till the process has finished, then just pull and glue straight to base as blue tac leaves no messsy residue ;)
