What will this mean for Epic and other specialist games?

Well, if GW doesn't switch over to another material like resin for non injection molded stuff, it can be summed up in one word. Fucked.

However, GW just released what, 6 new Dark Eldar metals? I'd take it with a grain of salt.

It is happening. It's been known about for several weeks.

In theory they'll be able to use existing moulds with the new resin.

In practice, I'd view the SG range in general as in danger, and Epic and Warmaster in particular due to the number of small infantry models. The snappage there will be... erk. Also, getting flow into such small areas may well turn out to be impossible in resin (Metal flows better in a spin mould).

This might well result in the death knell for official supply of Epic models.

Holy Mackerel Batman!!!

Should we start the mad dash at buying SG Epic now or later? Or is it....dare I say too late? Or will be okay for awhile?

Wonder what will happen to BFG? They seem the popular or accepted SG line. Battleships is resin okay, but the escorts and ordnance?

GW are supposed to have at least 3 months' supply of metal models left at this point, so I reckon you'll be ok for now.

They might lose ordinance, but anything larger than that (Escorts) should be fine.

Doesn't FW do a pretty much full range of resin ordinance anyway?

I'm having trouble figuring out how they're going to pull that off. There's a reason that I stopped doing stuff in resin, why is a giant company starting to do stuff in resin?

And shall we begin expecting warped GW stuff in addition to warped FW stuff?

Big chunky 28mm models are fine to produce in resin, if you've got the right equipment.

It's the little fiddly stuff like Epic that's less practical.

Has anybody tried recycling metal minis? At what point does melting and remolding become viable financially?

(or... worse, at what point to scrap minis get melted to make cell phones?)

Ive melted down GW metal minis before. Not sure what you mean by financially viable, much cheaper ways to get casting alloy than by melting down GW minis, can buy it by the kilo :p

I can see this as a good thing for BFG (few people use the ordnance models anyway) since it should help with the model weight and ease of build/conversion. I'm not so sure about epic though. Vehicles I think should still be fine, but as has been noted, infantry could be a problem.

I'm more curious about how they plan on marketing resin to the younger age group with the toxic dust it creates.
