OK, I'm going with Desert. I like the scheme, and it appears I'll be painting some SL stuff for Fanatic, so doing that for mine would get repetative.

I've dug through my collections and pooled anything I could find that's not covered in gubbinz (I'm looking for real easy painting - the E40K miniatures covered in camo nets, sandbags & other kit are beautiful but they take so much longer to paint I'll be adding them at a later date!).

The Force currently stands as (designed for E:A):
1 Regimental command company
1 Leman Russ Company
1 Artillery company (9 manticores - not keen on selection, would have preferred basilisk & bombards, but I have no other spare "clean" artillery!)
1 Mechanised infantry company
2 Super Heavy Companies (only intend to ever field 1, but 2 gives me the option)

1 Demolisher squadron
1 Stormtrooper squad
2 Fire Support Squads in Chimeras
1 Lightning Fighter Squadron
1 Hydra Support (either static or mobile, cant decide)
Possibly a FW Manticore squadron, (either static or mobile, depends on above)

Its about 4000 points which isnt too bad, with a few "Spares" for options.

Just because I want to, I've also put 3 Super Heavy Trucks (GZG) and 10 modern Half-track transports aside for the force for "flavour units".

Now all that remains to be seen is how much I can get painted before the end of the competition......... I love a challenge ?:D

I like the plain grey one. WHy? Because it can be weathered like you already did with mud on the tracks and all that and the weathering will be visible. Wih the other 3 schemes the tanks don't look as good with weathering IMHO (I am quite a bad/lazy painter actually). Weathering is something I have always found extremely cool in models, mself prefering people that seem to be in the midle of a battle/campaign and not ready for a show before the high command. So I would chose the scheme that shows that feeling and the grey one is a first choice here. Simply and easy to paint? Indeed. This is the reason :)

So there comes my vote :) In any case all of those look extremely cool, so whatever you chose it will be well worth it :D

Cheers,

Xavi

PS: I would like to see that speed painting as well! ;) :P :D

Sorry mate, You're a "mere" two companies too late - I'm under way with the desert scheme  :D

No hanging around here... when I say I made a decision & its related to speed painting, I mean it!

Next Question though - Anyone got any tips on speed painting the inf?
I'm using Valhallans as my basic trops and Catachans as my Stormtroopers (until the new metals are released - this is one squad thats DEFINITELY being upgraded!).

I've only ever painted IG in my detailed fashion, be it white, green or brown, but that all takes far too long!

Any ideas much appreciated - needs to fit the desert theme.

As I considered your query for speed painting infantry...it occured to me that MY detailed painting probably equated to YOUR speed painting.  Of course not all of us are as skilled as you Sir but we do our best...and really do try pretty hard...and we cant all get paid for our painting...and if we were all like you then you wouldn't be special and we wouldnt all love your stuff :{

But back OT... :L

Catachans- spray U/coat black, heavy drybrish dark green, pickout flesh and drybrush guns with Bolt Gun Silver.  Pick out a few handbands in red for that 'Rambo' look!

Valhallans make good Steel Legion- again spray black, heavy drybrush in sand yellow, pick out webbing  and boots in brown, add flesh and again a quick flick of bolt gun silver on the guns.

Nothing you wouldnt have already known, but I hope that helps!

Stop being stupid Tas :p - Ur a good painter! Hell, your Super Heavy tanks are one of the reasons I thought of doing a deserty scheme.

Thanks for the tips on the inf - I'm rocking through the vehicles but am yet to put paint to grunt. I'm worried I'm going to get bogged down in them so keep avoiding the little blighters ?
