Yeah, the Anvil base is much too small- for my Imperator, what I did was use two of the new thin large round bases, cut a slice out of one, and slot the other in, and glue them together... This provides a perfect sized base, nice and stable and ready to pile on as many scenery items as possible...
-Sorry if that was a little unclear, I can't really explain it any better..! ?:(

Hope that helps, although it might be worth hunting out something really interesting looking if this is for your Tzeentch Imperator Neal.... perhaps a pair of the really old 28mm flying discs... one to each foot? ??? ?

-Just some thoughts... :;):

To see what I did with my base, have a look here, at Tuffskull's workbench, about halfway down the page- the Capitol Imperialis and the launching mole show exactly what I did...

Cheers,

I know what you mean- my idea of a conversion is to swap major body parts and paint over the bits that dont file down well.  Not that kind of green stuff nightmare.

Simply stunning...

Tuffskull's da man.

Stormseer:  I tried the discs.  They are too small, except possibly the new fantasy champion's disc, but at $10/foot, I think I'll keep looking.

My alternate plan was to use 2 large washers; one for each foot.  I would glue them on and use texture gel and sand to make it look like they were large discs of sand.  I was also considering building the underside of the washers up in a stalactite-like fashion, so it looked as if big chunks of desert were literally ripped from the ground to provide footing for this monstrosity.

Also, the new Lord Kroak's platform might work.  It's more aztec/jungle-like.  However, the glyphs are neutral and the various vines and jungle-stuff could easily be turned into drifts of sand.

Current plan, excluding the pending flying discs is:

File down or fill some of the English gothic architecture to give it a sleeker Egyptian look.

On the platform use: the Elvish waystone obelisk as the center, two obelisk headstones in place of the rear towers, (this one I love) two warmaster Liche King thrones for the front corners of the platform, probably raised on small daises, and keep the large AA tower in the rear, suitably filed and filled to look more Egyptian.  Use khemri scarab shoulder pads around the edges of the platform and possibly on the obelisks.

Add the head dress from Ahriman's helmet to the existing head (the hanging ribbons even sway the same direction as the ones on the shoulder pads).  If I feel brave, I might try to add a third eye to the forehead, but I don't think my skills are up to it yet.

Paint scheme will be off-white base, with blue and gold "jewelry" trim, and a touch of yellow.

I am still looking for ideas for the weapons.  They would look fine as-is, but I would like to make them a bit more Tzeentchian.

All of this is, of course, subject to change on a moment's notice. :D

Wow... from that description alone, it sounds like it will be incredible...

Are going for an "ancient stone monument" feel with the painting Neal...?

Thats what it sounded like... should be awesome anyway! :)

I know, I know.  I feel like I'm under the gun on the contest minis, not to mention trying to get everything lined up so I can get pics done.

Honestly, I don't think it's going to make it for the contest.  It's just too big of a project.  Right now, it's looking like I will be submitting:

Slaanesh Landraider (see the 9-1-1 thread for details :( )
Stormboyz command stand (basecoated, needs details)
A feral Ork battle force (finished, but needs touch-up)

I might enter a gargant or titan, but I kind of feel bad because they were older projects.  I'll send in some pics either way.
