A few days ago I recieved via mail two newschool Epic 40k chaos sprues I'd bought from someone. I bought them mainly for the character models and new specialists, because I had enough rank and file to last me awhile.
So I gleefully rip open the packaging, examine these sprues of a type I'd never seen and marvel at the incredible detail they'd managed to fit on the little buggers. Then I file it away for later use...
Well today I decided to try and base some of these suckers when I noticed these guys are BIG. The basic chaos space marines are wider and taller then a loyalist terminator, and the chaos terminators... well they're like freaking oldschool dreadnoughts compared to everything else! Worst of all, the bases themselves are wider and won't fit in a 20x20 base at all, ruining my initial plans for them. Hell, I'm not sure they actually fit in the 40x10's either.
So... whats up with that? Did I get a freakish set of sprues or is _this_ the reason GW never released these independant of the boxed set. ? Does anyone have any good, realistic ideas for trimming the base down so I can fit these guys on ye olde square bases? I'm pissed off, these guys make the old chaos space marines look like little girls. Hell, the _cultists_ are actually slightly taller (if you compare the location of their heads) then the old chaos space marines.
RAR.
And as a minor aside, does anyone know if GWUS still sells epic eldar plastic sprues? I'm gonna call them in a bit anyway to order some archive stuff, so I'll ask then if no one knows.

Yes, most of the Epic troops grew over the development of the game. To really see this you should put an original Eldar Guardian next to a new one. Someone has certainly been putting Steroids into the Craftworld water supply! This bugs me also because the original minis are 6mm, and the newer ones are larger, meaning that they also dont fit in with other manufacturers stuff. There is not much that you can do about this, although this doesnt seem to be a huge problem for you, as I like my characters to be bigger than the rank and file anyway.
For getting them to fit the base, just sand away the rim of the disk which they are standing on. You really dont need to do this much, just a little to get them to fit.

Hi!
There is no question the infantry has "bulked up" over the years. The original guardians and SM troops fit without effort into their bases, sometimes you had to glue them because they were too small.
Not so know, you can get a hernia trying to ram those suckers in. I routinely have to "knick" the base to get them to fit properly.

Periodic,
Can you please tell me exactly what and how many figs there are on the new CSM sprue?
I am looking to get a few sprues and need to work out exactly how many to get (apart from the obvious answer of "LOTS!" )
Many thanks, Tas.
