Max, BA = Blood Angels, DA = Dark Angels, SW = Space Wolves. My predilection for military abbreviations, I can't help it. I've been thoroughly indoctrined. And on line, brevity works, for me at least ...

I use black to undercoat all my stuff- but yes, it is probabally unecessary to use it if you are spraying them blue- I didn't with my UM and they took quite a while !! For the highlights, try using SW Grey instead of mixing Skull White and UM Blue, I used this, it is -slightly- easier, and will produce a very similar result!

but back to the subject of actual painting...
I did the saem thing with my DA guys. Spray painted the raw but washed plastic vehicles with dark green paint. Only now, many many years later am I bothering do do steps 3 onward
I am such a lazy painter...I am too impatient to seek out the enemy and crush him

Quote (Chris @ 11 2003 May,14:21) | White instead of Black undercoat. I still think black, what does everyone else think? | For me it depends on what I am actually painting and what the top colour will be, mainly Orks have a black undercoat and Imperial white undercoat.
For some models I will use a white and black undercoat on the same model...

I recommend undercoating / priming Orks with white unless they're to be dark.
I mostly make Orks with lighter colors:
Snake Bites: Beige
Bad Moonz: Yellow
Kult of Speed: Red
I made some Battlefortresses for my E-A Bad Moonz and had to start over since the yellow never really went over the black prime coat well. Grey primer works well too, but I prefer the white.
Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
P.S.
Anyone know of silver spray paint for my Silver Skulls Space Marines?

There are very few things I paint over a white undercoat and even then its only ever 6mm stuff and rare.
Epic SMs I undercoated white and my bad moons. Prior to that the last time I used my white spray was the Iyanden Eldar project!

Yeah, black produces great results, though I will paint over with white on bits that will be bright red or yellow areas... -Black is great for shading, especially on BFG ships.

I find that white is good for lighter coloured vehicles/infantry like the Eldar and black for the darker colours. Although my Tau scheme is dark I have found that black undercoat has helped with the end result.
