Since the fateful Garage Cleanout '06, erm, eliminated my Epic Chaos Hordes, I have decided to do penance by rebuilding an army that matches up with the current EA LaTD list. I've put enough bits together now to have some fully formed units and am trying to stick with a Vraksian-themed Nurgle army. Since I have little free time and I'm pretty much sick of drybrushing, this is going to be a log of nothing but the Joy of Dipping. It's fast, stinky, and yeids up some decent, if not bulletproof, results. For the first test stand I wanted to start with a few simple colors that could be used across multiple unit types and give it a go. Basic colors 1st: Attachment: BigMut-predip (Medium).JPG

Some purple pox and matte spray finish it up and remove the glossy shine. Pretty happy with the results at this point and will start running some larger batches. Attachment: BigMutCombined (Medium).jpg

Those looks wonderful! You have converted me to trying dipping at some point I think, thanks. Cropped in photo of those could do well on coolminionot I'd think if you fancied joining the crusade over there at all? |

@GlynG, planning on posting up at CMON down the road. It's just good fun spreading Epic around. Next up, I'm going to get a few vehicles in the mix. Traitor Hellhound Squadron for starters. |

Love the Troll conversion. Where'd the gun come from? 40K laspistol? |

Quote: (zap123 @ 31 May 2009, 17:42 ) Love the Troll conversion. Where'd the gun come from? 40K laspistol? The gun is one of the old Imperial hand weapons sprue 1.0 Bolt Pistols with the clip cut off. They are ridiculously small for current 40K weapons and I have a grip of them still around from my Genestealer Hybrids that I bought back in the '90s. Great stuff for Big Mutant or HW guard conversions in 6mm. |

There's quite a bit of hate floating around for those who dip, but with results like that it's really hard to see why, those look absolutely fantastic. I'm really looking forward to see where you take this. Haarken |

I was not an advocate of dipping but what else are GW washes but brush-applied dips. Since I started experimenting with these and glazes and matt mediums (Vallejo) my painting successes have been fast coming and my eagerness to try new things has increased dramatically. These look great! D. |

What colour did you use for the armour and cloaks? |

Fantastic stuff, both conversions and painting/dipping. In my experience, dipping almost always requires quite a lot of finishing work, so I do not find it "easy" enough to deserve being called "cheating" in any way. And with results like this, who cares. /Fredmans |

@Frogbear, the main armor/clothing colors are P3 Hammerfall Khaki, Citadel Imperial Purple & Citadel Terracotta while the skin is Vallejo Green Grey. I never understood why some people get their feathers ruffled by dipping. It is just another painting technique like washes, blending, drybrushing, airbrushing, etc. You can screw it up as easily as any of the former if you do the wrong things, but a bad dip can be a whole lot harder to fix. I've always found dipping a complement to other painting techniques & it makes sense for 6mm minis because it can pick out subtle details. I'd guess those people who hate on dipping are the same lot who avoid left-hand turns, toasted bread, & public transportation carrying the number "3". |
