I am almost finished with one army project so am planning the next one. I think it might be Tyranids. I've painted a couple of bases and would love to hear your thoughts.

Do the bases need a little more? I was thinking a patch or two of brown flock or static grass.

I've a few more pictures on my blog. http://gamingandshooting.blogspot.com/2014/08/epic-40k-tyranids-test-models.html

Looking very nice. Look forward to seeing more.

A few grass patches would probably be a good addition, yes.

Have you also considered doing something to disguise where the models meet the bases? Having each figure visibly standing on a little flat disc disrupts the look a little, I feel.

Personally I reckon a light brown / tan colour would complement those models much better than the grey. Steel Legion Drab (used to be called Graveyard Earth before GW redid its paint range) is the colour I have in mind and used to often use for bases e.g. on my Raven Guard Terminators

Tyranid hive fleets are attracted to worlds with life to consume rather than lifeless planets, so grass and such would be good. It would add interest to the base too, epic having much more base relative to model compared to 40k getting a good looking base is more important.

Nice work on the tyranids though! Good Leviathan scheme :)

I have been thinking that a brown base may be the way to go. I will paint up one or two for comparison and see how they look.

Thanks!

Ash bases are actually ok since Tyranids consume everything and leave only barren razed land behind

I've added a bit more contrast to the models and basing.

I painted the claws red and the armor plates bone.

For the bases, I went with brown and some green flocks.

What do you think? Any better?
