If this goes well (and I'm feeling particularly masochistic), I may well get some Germans. There's at least one other EIR army in our group, and some Dacians and Carthaginians (I think).

Updates on the Romans.

Current state - One unit of Legionaries complete (barring tufts and sealing), one partial:

I'm going to do all four units of Legionaries before moving on to Auxilia, so the next update will probably be upon completion of those four units.

Those are great SG, nice job, and at 6mm scale a do-able project.

If I ever get the time I'd like to do Goths, Huns, late Romans, etc. Such a rich, interesting period in history.

Way ahead of you. :D

In Warmaster Fantasy, an infantry stand is stated to represent around 300 individuals. For my Romans, I'm going with a slightly more conservative 80 men per stand, which coinidentally works out to one Centuria per stand. This means there are two units to the Cohort, and three units of Veterans to the 1st Cohort. Thus a 5k army with 20 units of Legionaries and three units of Veteran Legionaries represents a full legion, plus an extra cohort to satisfy the minimum requirements for the game. Of course thats 200 GBP down the road from here. The 1k army I have right now is a mere two cohorts, plus support.

That said, one of the great things about Warmaster is that the game mechanics are largely independant of the size of the army - a unit could represent a platoon, company, or brigade sized force and the game plays the same.

For those interested, I've thrown together some of the downloadable terrain Hawk Wargames has released for DZC. It's very nice. The info page gives each lateral section a 36mm width, and floor heights of 17mm for residential and 21mm for commercial. I've added some 6mm Romans and assorted Space Marine vehicles for scale.

Notes: As a damnyank, I dislike the decision to have all the 3x2 buildings printable on A3. The A4 are mostly okay, though in places they go off the edge of 8.5" x 11", but the A3? Not a chance. However, the A3 does fit on Letter sized paper at 66% scaling (that is to say, 1/300 instead of 1/200). Not had a chance to build one in that scale yet. The sheets of Air-conditioning are great - fiddly to assemble, but they really add to the buildings.

...

When will my minis ship? :'(

PAX ROMANA !!!! And even though I'm not a big fan of printable buildings, those are very nice ... and could almost change my mind ... :)

Folded cardstock. I think it's 90#/160gsm or thereabouts.

Oh and for those wondering about Epic Terrain, printing at 66% seems o be the right choice:

Clever! I have a bunch of printed 15 mil WWII paper houses that I never got around to finish. Inspiring.

Well, I've been on vacation for a week with only sporadic internet access. To prove give the impression I did more in Maine than swim, boat, and watch The Red Green Show, I figured I'd put up the latest on the Romans.

Image
The whole (almost) of the painted army: three of four Legion units, one of two units of Archers, and two stands (out of four units/twelve stands) of Auxilia. There is also one of two stands for my unit of Scorpions painted, but not pictured. I'll add some pics of those at the end of the post.

Image
The latest Legion unit.

Image
Image
Archers. I need to basecoat the strips on the last stick before they get glued to a stand.

Image
Image
Auxilia - in the same state as that last stick of Archers.

Image
Scorpions - one stand of two I need to do. These are going to prove irritating - the legs on the gunners are cast very thin on both strips I got (in fact the reason the other isn't done is one gunner is broken off at the knees; I'm still trying to decide whether to order or ask for a replacement or try to repair it) and they will probably end up very brittle.

So I have a bit over five of the thirteen units complete. I have one stand of Scorpions, three and a third units of Auxilia, one unit of Archers, one unit of Legion, two units of cavalry, and the two commanders (a total of three figures on horse) remaining.

Scorpions are done - I ended up filling between the legs with green stuff to reinforce them on the second stand.
Image
Of course you can see the rest of the finished models laid out in the background, too.

Image
A test stand of cav. I'm planning on having some cav on medium brown and on white horses too. Any C&C? Dave, I'm looking at you - your Elf Cav is astounding.
