Earlier this year three topics were created in this forum asking for your thoughts on AC/NetERC responsibilities and the the NetEA approval process. The results from those were fairly close to the thoughts of the NetERC as well, so after a bit of refactoring, some hemming and hawing, and a bunch of dillydallying we now have the following as a starting point for an "official" document:

NetEA Charter, Responsibilities and Procedures

In a nutshell, this:
  • defines what NetEA is,
  • lays out the minimum responsibilities of the ACs and the NetERC members, and
  • writes down the procedures we've been trying to stick to for appointments (and adds some new ones that might be useful down the road).

The list approval process has also been written down, so now developers have an idea of what it takes to gain NetEA Approved status for their lists.

Bearing in mind "starting point for an "official" document"...

Quote:
Play a game of Epic at least once every six months.

For Army Champions, that is simply insufficient.
Two games a year is not enough play experience for someone to be holding such a position of responsibility.

By that criteria, the NetEA Necron Champion could play two games of Epic using FERC or EUK rules in an entire year, using Eldar army lists, and yet remain in charge of developing the NetEA Necron list.

Such lax requirements will only result in the same situation as currently : Rot.

Probably some more clarity and frequency would be in order. How about this instead?->

I totally understand that this is a volunteer effort but being an AC is a big deal. I think it is fair to say that one shouldn't take it on if you can't find the time. Hell, even I can find the time for a single game per month and I have a house full of kids. Granted it might mean I need to put aside painting but hey, you can't have everything :)

The idea is these are minimums to reflect when somebody needs to be removed from office. Nobody is suggesting that playing 2 games per year is an ideal schedule.

Personally I didn't play Epic for three months this summer due to a number of variables, but I played three times in September. So am I playing enough or not?

A player could be on a work assignment or have a game store shut down or simply have some other set of circumstances keep them from playing for x number of months, but typically they would play frequently. This is the nature of real life.

Well, the list of expectations is not normative, as written: playing fewer than 1 game per 6 months does not automatically trigger a removal vote (unlike absenteeism), so perhaps it is worth stating what the list means? It feels a bit like an afterthought, inserted into a list of responsibilities. Perhaps have "actively play using games using the lists under their command", and move the explicit minimum into the bit about removing ACs?

In fact playtesting is already in the list of responsibilities

Agreed and this is where communication comes into play. "Hey guys I am going to be involved in RealLife TM. Be back in 2 months... Until then talk to [Insert name of backup]" is totally fine (a professional as well as simple politeness).

You are however stating it is an acceptable minimum that someone put in charge of developing a NetEA army list.

And indeed, there's nothing to say that those two games must be with NetEA army lists.

I said it when this was touted around six months back on the AC board, and I'll say it again now.

I hate this. I hate the very idea of a "charter" and "procedures" for playing toy soldiers. It makes my skin crawl, and is largely responsible for my pulling back from developing under the netEA banner.

All it aims to do is to clarify the aims+responsibilities of the volunteers and allow people to be replaced smoothly if they don't fulfill them. The language and style is just to make everything as clear as possible to avoid confusion

So if we do things off the cuff we get accused of favoritism. If we make things formal, it is inappopriate for a volunteer group.

So far we've done it the unofficial way and only been met with resistance and criticism. If people more people don't like this process, speak up. However I would prefer this thread does not turn into a 'who shouts the loudest' contest.

I like the charter. Helpful for n00b champions like me.
