Greetings from the NetERC!

The NetEA Army Project grinds forward, but it needs your help!  Creeping errors (that is, Chaos!) are always a problem and it would be greatly appreciated if people could review the linked document to try to weed out any problems.

Okay, I've attached the Imperial Guard section for review.

It contains:

Steel Legion ("Standard" Imperial Guard)
Baran Siegemasters
Minervan Tank Legion
Death Korps of Krieg
Armageddon Ork Hunters
Elysian Drop Troops
Savlar Chem-Dogs
Catachan Deathworld Veterans
Cadian ‘Shock Troops'
Imperial Crusade

I've taken some liberties with unit and weapon names/stats, going over so many lists reveals that many "army specific" units are simply the regular units with a new special ability or such added.  To eliminate the proliferation of a horde of datafaxes that are almost identical, for the most part, I've listed the normal unit names in variant lists and provided a special rule box that talks about the unit modifications.  

Please let me know what you think about that, as many of the Imperial Guard regiments have this issue.  For me, it saves space and seems much more elegant for a 'workbook' presentation.  Note that this document is NOT designed as a "supplement" were such details and individual datafaxes with pictures and such are desired; an army's "unique" units can easily be shown in such a setting, where they just clutter up a workbook.

I've also redone the layouts of some of the armies, particularly the two that use "Leman Russ variants" in proliferation.  Those army's original layouts have units worth "negative" points, and that didn't sit well with the NetERC, so some changes were made.  The point values generated for those options are close, but not exact to the originals, so I'm sure it will generate discussion.

Good to see this up so quickly soon :agree:

I really dislike your having arbitrarily changed the points costings in some lists - please change these back! There is no compelling reason for this and having the compendium alter major published lists creates unnecessary and unhelpful confusion for no benefit. What's the problem with negative points values? Obviously they're not really negative but taken off the base cost of the unit, it's a slightly different way of presenting it but it doesn't seem problematic to me.

I don't think it's the role of the netERC to modify lists without discussion with the relevant sub-champions.

Nope, because he wasn't on Messenger during the days I was putting together this DRAFT.

Was planning on dicussing it with him once he returned, before we put out the official release.

Can you justify why you feel the change is necessary though? At the moment I'm not seeing any problem with the existing method and this just adds unnecessary change and confusion.

I'm cool with the points values being modified slightly as they were.

I do think army list construction will become a bit slower because you can't just take a set of +0pt tanks for the listed point value (and instead have to add them up individually), but I don't object all that strongly.

First of all, thanks for all the work you put in. I spotted a typo on General Guard Light Vehicles:

The Heavy AA Range says 6 cm instead of 60 (?).

Secondly, some unit stats are given under the heading "Experimental", whereas other units are described in the army list as "army specific". But some experimental units seem to be as army specific as, for instance, Death Korps Grenadiers. I do not mind, but I am a bit curious.

again thanks for all the hard work, i can't believe you got these done so fast.
not to beat a dead horse but.... the whole purpose of these lists was to make it easier for new people. now you want to have different point costs? we're just going to run into all the same questions. "i made my list using x rules but y has different points, which do i use?"
why not just have an * after the negatives and then explain it later. very simple.

Like I said, as the Krieg list is an ERC sponsored list, if the ERC want the points costs modified to all be positive, then I am fine with adopting the ERC-requested costings in (in this case) Siege, regardless of my personal preference.

Newbies will never see the negative point values at all, as they'll have been Squatted before they got into the game.  :)
