Interesting... so why don't marines or stormboyz get to bail out when their t-hawk or landa is hit? ? :D

I like his last words - typical NZ.

The skydiver, who plunged more than 3600m when his parachute failed to open properly late last year, told Britain's Mail on Sunday "I should be dead, absolutely".

http://www.dailypost.co.nz/localne....ection=

At an altitude of 550 feet (168m) - five-and-a-half seconds from the ground - the film shows Mr Holmes waving goodbye.

"I tried to think of something, the right thing to say for the camera. But I looked at the ground again and without thinking I just blurted out 'Oh s***, I'm dead ... Bye!"'

However, with annoying predictability, there are the usual moronic comments surfacing:

"There was obviously something or someone looking over him."

Shame that whatever or whoever it was didn't just open the chute in the first place to stop him smashing several bones to pieces???? ?:p Idiots. ?

Of course such comments reached a height of idiocy in the 911 tragedy, with people claiming God must have been looking out for this or that rare survivor. Great, well by that logic obviously God didn't give a **** about the other 2900 people, and was incapable of doing something far more useful like giving all the hijackers heart attacks. ?Damn brain rot. ?

Yes, I saw that story on the news, and as I have said, I was parachute qualified in the Army ... But never had a malfunction !  ThanK God !  :;):  Well once he's able, he better get up there and jump again.  Many times if there was a malfunction and a reserve chute had to be deployed ... they'd try to get the boy up there soon so he didn't lose his nerve !   :)

Lol L4, I thought it might be a good story for training actually.

"Even if both chutes fail, sometimes looking out for you will be the almighty benevolent blackberry bush."

:D

Apparently he is keen to get back to making his living from jumping out of perfectly good aircraft.

Reminds me of a conversation between an instructor and a new diver...

Diver: So, what happens if my chute doesnt open?
Trainer: We check them, so that should never happens.
Diver: Sure, but what if it does?
Trainer: Well then, you have a backup chute packed.
Diver: What happens if that doesnt open either?
Trainer: That is impossible.
Diver: No, really.
Trainer: Honestly, impossible.
Diver: So, why dont I open that one first?
Trainer: .....

I saw the video of this on the news (Both the diver and his buddy on the jump had cameras, so there were two angles available) last night.

The guy was doing about one lateral rotation per second ever since the moment his chute half-opened... I'm surprised that he was concious enough to wave goodbye before he landed on that bush!

The footage of his mate fighting his way over to the bush (Through the undergrowth) to ask "Are you alright mate?" was pretty hairy... and it was answered with a slightly ammusing "No!". :D

Of course !  A man's got'a eat and drink !  So I work out 7 days a week !  Since I eat 7 days a week !  But that being said, I try to eat "healthy" !        I do remember at parachute school, troops eating a big meal and then "losing" it ... the "Black Hats" (Airborne Instructors) loved  that !   I knew better and lived on protein bars !       And the Black Hats took great pleasure "abusing" me as I was an officer and they could get away with it !   Made me just that much harder !  :;):

Ouch.

Not any more. Seems the news service that bought it complained and they took the vid down.
