Has anyone sent something international with insurance? If so, do they not put a label on the package for this? I was charged 11GBP in shipping for what looks like a 4.75GBP package. The seller is claiming the rest is insurance and they don't put labels on for that.

might depend exactly how they sent it, but in any case they should have a receipt their end for it (along with the tracking info etc you'd need to actually submit the insurance claim), ask to see receipt/info? Insurance should be itemised in the receipt – again, may vary with shipping method and where it was posted (post office, private mail counter, parcel shop etc).

Also note that via UK royal mail air mail only signed for and/or tracked services (including airsure) can have compensation over £20. So if it's just a regular small packet from royal mail with no tracking info and/or you didn't have to sign it can't have had extra insurance purchased. (this does not apply to large parcels and maybe not to other postal services) (edit: by tracking – stuff like barcode on silver slip as mentioned below)

If it has a silver label on it with a barcode it will have been sent with insurance, UK postage has jumped up. Recently especially with any form of tracking hope that helps.

There's only two labels on the package. A gold label that I see on every piece from the UK (with a postage rate of 4.75) and a customs declaration label.

So if there's no silver label, they never got insurance and pocketed the extra 7.25 they charged me?

Was it sent by Royal Mail? If not then they can vary hugely.

Gold label does suggest Royal Mail, but for £4.75 it'd have to be a very small package. Is it < 2.5cm deep (large letter) and between 100 and 250g? How much was it worth? That's the only thing I know of that is £4.75, which is International Standard. It comes with £20 insurance but I'm not sure they even let you add more insurance to that service, because it is neither tracked nor requires a signature.

I would give him a chance to demonstrate (e.g. show a receipt). There could be all sorts of explanations.

Ya, Royal Mail. And given that PDF, 4.75 only shows up under World Zone 1, Large Letter 250g or less. All that makes sense, I didn't weigh it but it was 3 Battlefortresses, 2 Dreads and 2 Kans. I don't think that would come out to more than 250g with a bubble mailer.

I asked for a receipt too, waiting for a response there.

Yep … just to add to the confusion that PDF lists the public prices. You can get a discount from private mail counters using royal mail, so prices might not match up/might overlap with some in that listing.

So yes, receipt and tracking info. Don't think it can have been sent with extra insurance via royal mail unless a tracked or signed for method was used and that would appear on receipt or as additional tracking info.

No you can't get extra insurance without a tracking method, silver label or the blue and white one.

Other fun thing about this order was: I asked if I would be getting what's pictured. He said yes. I didn't get what was pictured.

When I messaged him again, the response was basically:

"it all plays the same, whats the point in messing about over a pose on an £8.00 item, its not even expensive"

I didn't point out that if £8 is "not even expensive" then he should have no problem refunding the £7.25 in shipping, whether he paid for it or not...

Finally got this resolved, but not before I had to open an eBay case. The seller was warlordsofthecoast in case anyone was wondering. Overall, he was uncooperative, untruthful and slightly offensiveness.

In a nutshell, he:

• failed to send me what was pictured (after I specifically asked if it was what I was getting),
• sent me another incomplete model (missing a turret),
• charged me £11 for £4.75 of postage.

After a few days of back-and-forth he offered a refund for the incorrect model. I tried to get an additional £6.25 out of him to cover the difference in the shipping. I thought that was reasonable and would have been happy there, but he didn't agree. So when that went nowhere I opened a case with eBay. They refunded me for both the models and all the shipping.

I laughed when I saw that e-mail. That probably makes me a bad person but it's not like I was making wild demands. Send me what I ordered and charge me actual shipping is pretty reasonable in my opinion.

I'm a bit late to this one but to second what hobbes etc. have said - if it was sent via Royal Mail and doesn't have a green label with a barcode (International Tracked & Signed) or a purple label with a barcode (International Signed) then it was not sent insured.
