I recently just saw this auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....y=31399
I have seen many of this sellers auctions in the past, and even heard rumers about this issue, but this latest auction certainly proves the rumors true.
This seller is selling fake copies. This latest auction has metal treads, that were only ever made in plastic. I am sure all of his other auctions are the same fake copies as well. He has the most rare items listed just about weekly. I am surprised GW has not investigated this.

Hi!
Is the whole thing a copy? Or just the tracks? I have run into several models across the years where only tracks were copies. Hard to tell if the model is as well.
I agree that if its a copy the seller should as much and it is fraud otherwise.
I guess "caveat emptor" applies here.

I had a third party e-mail me about him also when they saw a bid I had on one of his lots. The third party said the guy sold copies and that the figs were lead. I assumed the guy didn't know what he was talking about because the figs I was bidding on were OOP eldar 40K figs that haven't been made since GW switched to white metal.
That's certainly nice to have a second source.
Based on the pic, I would tend to think that CI is a copy top to bottom due to what looks like pitting in the side panels. Then again, I'm not very familiar with it, so maybe I'm wrong.

The offer says that "the plastic treads have been replaced with more durable metal tank treads." - sounds highly suspicious to me, and I think nealhunt is right about the pitting on the flanks. And the turret looks very much like being one-piece with its base, rather than an assembly. Finally, the lower end of the rear of the vehicle just above the track housing, and possibly the fore end as well, shows some signs of what could be sand fall-off if it's sand casting, or a mould defect of some sort. Never saw that on a GW model, as they use metal dies.

Hi!
Yes, that statement about the tracks is suspicious, but thats how he's keeping GW off his back I suppose.

I've seen many auctions by this seller. He sure is trading an awfull lot of Hellbores and CI's -All with "more dueable metal tracks". ...But of course it's quite possible he's just trading a lot and getting a lot of models with broken tracks...
Cheers!

Another 'interesting' article for sale by the same chap is a 40k Castellan robot - the description says it's 'white-glued' and primed, but the item in the picture looks suspiciously as a one-piece component, and again there are what seem to be casting defects. Then the Epic 40K Ork Dreadnoughts are in 'one piece for ease of construction'.
Fishy.

Hi!
No doubt the guy seems to be casting copies, they do seem to be decent ones. He's playing with fire selling them on e-bay though.

Item were re-casts, and not original Warhammer. | buyer beware

I cant say that I have an issue with this guy recasting discontinued models. But the fact he is selling them as origanals is wrong. Even if he had spent the time fixing any casting defects and built n primed the model to a pro standard its his duty to inform bidders what exzactly they are bidding on. I myself have bought an item from ebay only to find it fell well short or its discription and I know Id be pretty angry if I unknowingly bought a recast advertived as an origanal.

Hi!
I share kr00za's views. I'm not at odds with the actual copying, but trying to pass them off as legit is bad.

If you cast them for yourself, that should be no problem, but selling them is a copyright infringement. (I'm going to have to get a new tag line !)

Hi!
I've always been interested in copyright law. From the information I have obtained over the years casting a copy even for personal use is illegal. Its a misconception to think the act of selling is where the illegality arises. Of course in court if no selling has occured proving damages is harder.
GW will NEVER relinquish its rights on old models, simply because the unscrupulous would flood the market with older models which would comprise their sales.
For out of print models the only recourse is to cast them yourself and keep quiet about it.
