I was starting a new Marine army. I wanted to have a bright yellow base, and over it, a heavy black layer, to make a charred armor impression. I tried putting a pure black ink wash over it (no water, just ink). Unfortunately that gave me a glaze, too shiny. What are your experiences with this? Should I just water down the ink a little?

Its 40K. I thought that'd be a little more obvious not being in the Epic miniatures! But yes, its 40K.
